When is it time...

to publish? I've got a manuscript and I sent it to a prospective Christian publisher. They were interested in my book idea! I am excited about the possibility of being a published author! BUT I don't want to rush ahead of God. I'm testing the waters, I guess you could say, right now. I am serious but I also know it is a little pricey to publish. Mind you, I would get some of it back and I have some savings. Anyway, I know I didn't write what I wrote for it to stay on my computer. I need to be careful, still! Any pieces of advice? Thank you!

Have not published, I am not sure but I believe God opens the right door at the right time. If you have the desire, continue to pursue it. Continue to pray and following God's will. I have held myself back in the past thinking I need to be careful rather than stepping out in faith.

Are you talking about 'vanity publishing'? If a publisher thinks your work is worth publishing you shouldn't be paying them to do it.
Have you thought about/looked into e-publishing? If you are able to format the manuscript and design a cover yourself it will cost you nothing but it takes quite a bit of time and effort. The real work then comes after that in then promoting it.

I really want an actual book but someone else mentioned the ebook too so I will pray about that. I am now getting cold feet about putting "my baby" out there.

Vanity publishing? Can you elaborate?
My son published with Xlibris thinking he was going to make $. instead they did until he found out ..that book cost him thousands to get away from them . He submitted to giving them too much right.
I do not have any $. Interested in a hint as to how to find someone to print and bind some of my work.How to I find out about format guidelines for the manuscript and have in mind the design of the cover.

Hello Witness, It a case of spending time (a lot of time) digesting the information you can find on-line and deciding what is the best option for you. No easy as there are nowadays so many options available. But nearly all of them cost money. As far as I can see the only way to get your work 'out there' at no financial cost is to self publish e-books with the likes of Amazon, Lulu, and various others. But this takes time, energy and an understanding of how to make a finished, formatted file of our work that functions on-line. Then of course you have to spend the time and energy needed to 'market' it that is getting people to buy it.

You could always try self-publishing as well (as I think someone mentioned before). CreateSpace is a self-publishing website that works through Amazon, so your writing would be available to purchase on Amazon. I think it's free to use too, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
