  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wouldn't classify this guy as mentally ill. Just a mean, abusive man getting revenge.
Those at the mental institution he escaped from a few years ago might disagree.

This is what I remember, understood, and deducted from that info.
I believe he was there for an evaluation and probably anger management. That was after he beat his wife and injured her little child. After that he spent a year in military prison and then he was turned loose.
If that timeline is incorrect please correct me.

EDIT: That would have been his first wife, the ex.

It's hard to determine from reporting.

It appears to have been either just before or just after his actual court-martial and before the sentencing hearing. Either way, it's a dramatic failure on the part of the Air Force that it did not seem to have changed the charges (if before the court-martial) or affected the sentencing (if after the court-martial).

This was just an abysmal failure on the military's part all around.

When is it terrorism? When is it a hate crime?
Not sure if this should be Kitchen Sink or News, but it relates to the attacks in New York and Texas and how they are defined.

It would seem that some socio-political motivation is the defining factor in a terrorist attack. The attack itself is seen as an attempt to further the goals or aims of some organization.

As such, the Texas attack doesn't really qualify to my knowledge.
