  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ever get "told" something by God in a way that is so obvious that it is almost comical?

Well, you know how I mentioned my priest asked me to teach RCIA? Well, at Mass on Sunday he came by and followed up by asking me to get started by coming by to meet the class on Wed night. I looked at my wife and she didn't seem to mind, so I agreed to come by that night. (With two little ones at home with her all day I was hesitant to take away any of her "down" time)

Ok, so during the Mass, the entire theme that kept popping up was the do what God calls you to do. Over and over the message was preached. I would look up at the screen occasionally from watching my son (we have a big screen on the wall for Scripture readings) and things like "Will you labor with me?" and "Will you cast the net?" would be on the screen jumping out at me. Those are some small examples, but my wife and I were both laughing to each other about how obvious God was being in Mass. He is calling me to teach the faith and the message could not have been any clearer...it was literally written on the wall.

We had a good laugh all day about it and she said that when God and a priest are asking you to do something she is not going to complain about me being late to come home on Wed night!

:D

And that's the exact attitude that you should have.

I am currently trying to discern my ministerial call. And today's homily from Deacon Bill was about his calling to the Diaconate...

Interestingly enough, that's exactly where I feel I'm being pulled...:)

I think we're all being called right now...I think the Lord is wanting a renewal in the Church...it's time we heed his calling in our lives.

*grin* I've had God get obvious with me to tell me to start geting involved in the church. W/o going into details, I was commiting a mortal sin routinely (while taking the Eucharist - I didn't realize the significance of this). I'd been praying- don't recall how consistently, but I know I was - and I was realizing that I'd never gotten comfortable with what was happening. I finally went and talked to a visiting priest. Don't think he really said anything significant, but I think it might have been a case of "It's the thought that counts". I thought enough to talk to a priest, God decided to help me along.

One of the sermons right around that time was about how you shouldn't take the Eucharist while commiting mortal sin, that you will then be held accountable for that sin. Uh-oh. I then was asked by a friend to attend our church's classes on Pope JPII's Theology of the Body, where they were showing videos of Christopher West's speeches. I started bawling, and told this friend what had been happening. That Sunday before mass I went to talk to Father Steve & ask when we had confession next. He told me "Monday", but could see that I was upset, so he took some time away from working on his homily to hear my confession (he still had a while to work on it, I got there early to practice with the choir). From then on, God has given me the strength to refrain from that 'bad habit' and has been constantly calling me to practice my faith.

Yeah, I know - it's not the same as having God call you to act for him, but it's a significant step along the way. I'm hoping that God will have a use for a sinner like me :)

Well, the day the Lord prompted me to attend my first Mass happened to be Pentecost...
I didin't realize the significance until later.

(To clarify: the first Mass I actually attended was on Pentecost 2003. :) )

Oh my goodness, I just realized something last night! Remember my thread about my inability to open the door at the other parish, which prompted me to switch to this new one? Well, my first encounter with the new priest (at confession) led to him asking me to teach.

Is it coincidence that I couldn't open the door at the other parish!?

Here is that thread about the door...

I have a Bavarian friend who says "There is no such t'ing as coinzidenze! God weaves all t'ings togeder." I don't buy this........ but that door thing is very interesting There are some very interesting coincidences in our lives, often associated with godly matters.

Ok, I met my class last night, it was pretty cool. There was one guy in particular who really needed me...he has all sorts of questions that have not been answered yet...I think God led me to him.

Also, I am teaching the first class this Sunday on "Holy Orders"

:)

He once said that he wanted to be a new Nebuchadnezar! It was about the time he started rebuilding Babylon. That is scary.

It's easy to acknowledge that what we're doing is sinful and feel bad about it, but it's a completly different matter when we acknowledge our sin and actually do something about it!! Good for you for stopping!! :holy:

Not being allowed to participate in the Euchrist sure will make people come to terms with their sinful actions!
