When gameshow host personalities are directly copied by other countries

Somthing that drives me bonkers is when, for example here in South Africa, the personalities of gameshow hosts from the US and UK are directly copied.

What I mean is this: take e.g. ''Are you smarter than a fifth grader?''. Here in SA, the presenter is a local celebrity named Solly. He has a bubbling personality in reality and he hosts an Afrikaans music gameshow and he is a riot. Not just for the show, that is how he really is.

Now someone decided he should host the SA version of ''Are you...grader'', and they decicded he should also be this stern, 'watered down hmoured' kinda guy like the US presenter. Please understand I'm not dissing the US presenter's personality, it works for me and I enjoy him.

However it doesn't work to copy that along with the idea and concept of the show. However, I do not know if perhaps that is in the contract? I mean the show would have been much better for SA audiences with the 'real' Solly.

Another disaster was a woman named Fiona who tried to be Ann Robinson with the SA version of ''The Weakest Link''. She dyed her hair red, put on this fake, stern and b***hy attitude and expects it to be believable. She'll never be Ann. I could never watch that show. How pretentious!

Anyone else outside the US maybe experience this kinda thing when a famous gameshow came to your country?
