• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey, How many years did you smoke? I was coming out of 9 years of smoking. I had horrible nausea for about 6 days straight. You know the kind where you feel sea sick? If you can try to get some extra sleep, it helps me. It also helps me not to think about smoking or symptoms. Eat some good for you foods, and get some fresh air. Drink lots of juice and water. You'll be fine! You can do it! Keep up the fight...how many days are you on now?

I've smoked for almost four years. I can't believe it. Thanks for the replies guys. Um I dont really know how many days it's been. Like 2? I don't like to think about it too much. The last time I posted on here, my other post on this board. I haven't gotten any cigs since then so yeah...

Ive never been seasick either so I dont know what that feels like. But anyway, when are all the withdrawel symptoms like the worst? No, I dont think I wanna know lol Sometimes when I think about stuff it makes it worse.

hey hey, don't give up! Trust me, after being smoke free for over a year I was feeling great. I started back up for a month and Couldn't do it anymore...so now I have been smoke free for six months. Just fight the cravings one battle at a time and you'll win the war!

Thank you I didn't give up yet. It's just so hard sometimes. i don't even want to smoke but at the same time I do, ya know? It's a crazy addiction. I just want the comfort. I need to re-learn how to live my life though. It is such a drug. Its amazing that we allow this stuff to be legal.

Keep going - you can do it! I am 3 and a hlaf years quit now and I must say I have only had one drag of a cigarette in that time. It was the most vile thing I had ever tasted and it hurt my throat so much I could never do it again! Anyway what I am trying to say is that it will come to pass. I understand how you have to relearn how to live your life but soon you will forget you ever did it to begin with. Trust me - I can't even imagine it now. It is weird how our brains work! We forget some things so easily! Praise the Lord! Until then, try all the things you could possibly think of and find the one you enjoy the most and keep doing it! Use the money you would of spent on fun things to do. Keep living and laughing!

Yeah, money is a big factor, you can buy yourself something really nice with the money you save. Well for me the strongest withdrawal symptoms lasted about 8 days. But be warned any of them may come back out of nowhere in the next 2-3 months. I'm already on day 12 now and I'm feeling way better. Keep it up, you are not very far behind me days wise. You will start to feel better. And when you do you will be like, wow I can't believe how good I feel! It just takes time for your brain to rewire to adjust to the loss of the comforting nicotine. Keep strong you got this already, you just dont know it!

Don't worry, just think of it as a trial run. Don't feel bad at all, if you do it will hinder further attempts to quit later. Everyone needs practice, It took me so many tries to quit the first time. I slipped up even after 5 months...So no worries. You can do it when you are fully ready. It's not a failure. Just a step closer to breaking free of the habit forever. You know in your mind you can do it. Don't feel bad about slipping up. Just try again whenever you're ready to do it. Quitting is a very personal decision. And the people who care about us sometimes don't get that. It has to click in your mind when you're ready to quit. And it will happen.

I am with JOsh. It took me many attempts before I got it right. Don't feel so bad about it. Look at what went wrong and why you decided to smoke again so that next time you quit you won't fall into the same trap. It is all good. Keep trying until you get it right!

Well, I didn't give up. I am happy to say that I got right back on it and tomorrow will be Day 7! Woohoo! I think this is longer than I lasted the last time and possibly the longest I have lasted for almost four years. I still have really bad anxiety though. I know the first couple days are the worst as far as other symptoms go and I thought I was over the anxiety part too and then bam! out of nowhere Ive been having really bad anxiety for the past couple of days. When do I get over this part?? :( Is this normal?

I don't know why but I feel like I just want to go have one smoke. But I know that I can't because I will have to go through withdrawal symptoms again. I now know that I can quit but I can't go through that again. Argh, what do I do? I just feel so stressed. I feel like what's the big deal if I go have one. I can't believe this. This is one of the most terrible things to try to get over. It's been 18 days. I just feel like I'm over it. I feel like I know that I can quit so what is the big deal if I smoke a couple or whatever. But I know that's the wrong thing to think. I just don't want to have to struggle with this for my whole life. It's so annoying. I remember the days when I could smoke when I drank(yeah I know Im not even 21) and then I could wake up the next day and not smoke. But now I can't do that. Well, I don't know if I can't do that but I'm pretty sure I can't and I'm not going to find out. This just sucks. I envy people who have never smoked and have no desire to. And I remember the days when I was like that and I wish I could go back. Or I wish I could just smoke one every once in a while. But I can't go on like this. I know that if you COULD just smoke one every once in a while then they really would be no big deal. But it's not like that. What should I do?

I just wanted to update this for anyone who might read this. As I left it, it sounded like I had given up. :)

Well, I haven't smoked for nearly 2 months, except for a little slip when I was drinking. You cannot just smoke when you drink, for anyone who has quit.

But anyway I just wanted to let everyone know I am dong very well and it has gotten so much easier than when I first posted this and it is possible to quit smoking.
