CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At 14 when I had to choose between Latin & biology
My Toronto Bible College grad mom explained very well the wrongs of being forced to parrot lies to gain what would therefore be a worthless piece of paper
& the value of the Way, the Truth & the Life
Year Training Prog @ www.om.org sure confirmed it: a team leader was a lecturer & taught us thoroughly & I read Dr Henry Morris classic 'Noah's Ark & The Genesis Flood etc

Before you were told this, you had no opinion on the matter itself? Were you aware of any origins dispute at the time leading up to this? What would have happened if you weren't told this?
Can I ask how a Bible college differentiates from a normal one? Wouldn't you say that they would have a somewhat biased view of the world, and would try to ensure you carried on their views?
If you weren't told that creationism was true, how do you think you would've arrived at that conclusion in an alternative manner?

Depends on what you mean by 'Creationist'. Generally, a Creationist is someone who believes that a divine intelligence 'caused' the universe and/or the Earth and/or terrestrial life and/or human intelligence.
Since I believe none of those things, I am not a Creationst, by that definition.

One who either believes this universe was created, or one who doesn't know where the parts came from (which means that I give them the benefit of a doubt).

That's a pretty meaningless definition. "Everybody's a creationist because my definition encompasses everyone."

I define you to be an atheist. An atheist is either someone who doesn't believe that there are gods, or one who has yet to acknowledge that there are no gods.
Seriously though, why would you define everyone in a way so that they carry the same label as you do? Is it to feel less lonely, and to feel that your belief system is broadly recognized?

Fair enough. Of course, this definition renders the word moot, since it encompasses everyone: theists, atheists, evolutionists, anti-evolutionists, humans, fish...

If this is a complete picture of the path to your conclusion, it is obvious that you never once truly considered any alternative to creationism... thus, you haven't yet actually made a true choice, you only remain fixed at a default position established by your mother.

I grew up in a Christian home. I did not understand evolution or the evidence for it when it was presented to me. In my ignorance, I found AiG and like ministries very convincing in their presentations. I have since learned about the actual evidence that common descent has taken place, and find it overwhelming. I am still a creationist, I believe God has created us (apparently over a long time).

Muslim children go the mosque and are taught about Islam until they are 16 years old,
they are then asked if they would like to become Muslims.
What do you think their answer ALWAYS is?
This way they can genuinely say they were not forced, but chose to be Muslims.
And they honestly believe they did.
How sad is that???
