Er, I really think you should just read the study. The least religious 1st world nations have on average the least social problems. "Trusting in the God of the Bible" is not going to fix social problems. Actually fixing the social problems will fix the social problems.
I don't deny this. That's what I mean about things going bad. It's not just having religions that brings the blessing.
It's trusting in the God of the Bible. The more we turn our backs on Him the more we will see the decline of our nation. You know One Nation Under God andIn God We Trust being removed from our culture.
Without God's blessing a nation can dry up in resources.
This country going against the laws of God.
We have been going against Islamic law our entire history. Why isn't that bad?
Why does your money have to have God's name all over it? Does it make all purchases holy and rendered unto God?
This lust to have the name of your God on everything you deal with, be it money or state symbols, just smacks of superstition.
And what about those of us who are athiests? Why do we have to have God on currency? It presumably costs just a wee bit extra to have the words carved in the intaglio presses that make our money. I don't want to pay for your superstitions.
I don't want to have my tax dollars support christians' hilltop crosses. I don't want my taxdollars to go to anything that will make the HINDUS, JEWS or MUSLIMS in our country feel like OUTSIDERS.
I'm not saying you can't take a big ol' marker and write God's name all over everything you have, and I'm not saying you can't take some housepaint and paint just a ton of crosses on YOUR car with YOUR MONEY, YOUR TIME, YOUR EFFORT, but I don't want to support that.
Oh yeah, and since we're talking science, I don't want your superstition and myths plastered into the science texts. The texts used to teach the next generation about science. I will have to rely on them being good scientists, not good ministers.
On the flipside:
I've got a few unsupported beliefs of my own that you wouldn't agree with, are you willing to pony up some of your cash to support those? Because right now I'm paying for those all by myself.
My gosh! You're right! If we've been a Christian nation and we wound up with so much bad (crime, disease, etc.) then maybe we should assume we've been doing it all wrong all these years!
Maybe we need to become Muslims. No, wait, what about Hindus? I mean, I don't know about YOU, but I've never once offered a meal to Krishna!
I have a few unsupported beliefs as well, any chance I could throw them in for a few bucks?

Sure! Why not? If we get enough of the altogether we can write a holy book and establish a religion.
I think you missed the point of the study completely.
Usual religious response: retreat to an unfalsifiable claim.
Those countries Pete found in the study that are more religious have problems, ergo you assume they must not be doing something right or things would be going better for them. How do you know that? Why because things are bad for them! QED.
That's circular.
Why does your money have to have God's name all over it? Does it make all purchases holy and rendered unto God?
Do you think God is sitting up in heaven thinking, "well, there's $3.4 trillion worth of currency going around on this continent, but only $1.2 billion has MY HOLY NAME on it...I better start to smitin'!"
This lust to have the name of your God on everything you deal with, be it money or state symbols, just smacks of superstition.
It's a child-like throwback. We have to keep reminding God we love him as a nation. So we have to plaster his holy name on everything! Hey, you! You don't have God's Holy name on your CAR! Better fix that. He's watching, you know.
It's silliness.

I'm sorry, Pete, I haven't read the study yet, I will try to get to it tomorrow. Just got home from work after being gone for two days. I tried to go on tonight but I just cracked up when I saw the title ...
Cross-National Correlations of Quantifiable Societal Health with Popular Religiosity and Secularism in the Prosperous Democracies
... and knew I wouldn't be able to get through it. I will try tomorrow (I think) and get back to you.
Someone needs a hug!
As evolution is a continous process, all fossils are transitional forms. The extreme rarity of transitional forms in the fossil record persists as the trade secret of paleontology. The evolutionary trees that adorn our textbooks have data only at the tips and nodes of their branches; the rest is inference, however reasonable, not the evidence of fossils. ~ Stephen Jay Gould
Hi Inan, how's things?Without God's blessing a nation can dry up in resources.

Overuse of resources can dry them up. No deity required.
Like what?
We have been going against Islamic law our entire history. Why isn't that bad?
Anyway, God must have blessed the Saudi's by giving them so much black gold they can sell it everywhere and to everyone....
Because it's not Biblical.
As evolution is a continous process, all fossils are transitional forms.
Say goodbye to the straw-man.
Hi Inan, how's things?
I've neglected the thread you set up in GA for me about the bilical rules (Bear put me off by bersting you for putting it in the wrong area...duh!)
Anyway, God must have blessed the Saudi's by giving them so much black gold they can sell it everywhere and to everyone....
Apparently you are going on very little sleep. Maybe when you get a good 8 hours of shut-eye you'll bother to propose an actual meaningful response to posts like Loudmouth's.
