  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are those reasons related to the reasons you reject other aspects of what you consider secular achievement?

Following his thinking to it's logical conclusion would deem that all non-scriptural knowledge is secular and evil. therefor it should be rejected. Ah drat there I go using that secular computer again!

That was the line I was following as well.

archaeologist, it seems like you reject secular achievements in some places but do not in others (see: posting on the internet). Do you have a standard for what is acceptable to use, or is it an arbitrary process?

this is getting into territory that requires that the other side acts rationally and respectfully.

you keep appealing to technology as your justification for pursuing secular scientific theories and thinking; but what about the 'science' of drug making?

are you thinking you are allowed to take drugs or that drugs are good because science figured out a way to manufacture them?

you seem to only paint part of the picture when you want to pursue that which is not of God despite what God says.

or what about the car? it can help people or it can kill, both require humans to operate and both depend on those human's attitude. what is good or bad about the car in and of itself?? nothing.

many christians invented technology we use today, does that make their inventions more or less valuable than secular ones? or does it justify our use of technology? no.

technology is like the gun. the gun does not kill, the person pulling the trigger is responsible for that act thus we have to look at that person's attitude, spiritual condition and other factors.

what is the purpose behind the act? are you disobeying God by pulling the trigger? if it is a sinful act (murder) then yes; if it is for target practice, then no.

now God said, 'do not follow the world or its thinking (i have quoted many verses to this effect); is pursuing a secular theory a sinful act or not?

i will wait till you answer that question.

But all of science is secular. In fact, God created the world so that all of science is secular:
However, God Himself has created nature such that a scientific statement would never need to derive authority from Scripture. The only criterion of a scientific statement's truth is how well it describes our observations of physical reality, and it has pleased God to let these observations be uniformly repeatable regardless of any researcher's personal beliefs about religion or Scripture. As such, no true scientific statement would be any more true, nor would any false scientific statement be any less false, simply because it was in Scripture: for the proper object of science is neither the Creator nor His Scriptures but His creation.
It is no more wrong to trust "secular" science for knowledge of the physical behavior of creation than it is to trust a "secular" mechanic with my car.

bullets kill.

only if the person throwing them canthrow hard enough ( or pulls the trigger)

But all of science is secular

but i disagree as secular science is not proclaiming the glory of God but evolution.

and it would have been nice to know where you got that quote from so i could look it up. it sounds familiar but i can't place it.

depends, are they telling you the truth or are they lying to you? you have to be discerning to figure what is happening.

So a secular mechanic might lie - but a non-secular one would not?

Perhaps better questions:

1) Why do literalists dismiss all science that doesn't agree with the Bible yet agrees with science (when it employs the EXACT SAME methodologies) when they deem it appropriate?

2) Why don't they even open their mind to the idea that The Bible and science CAN be used to the same ends? There are MANY Theistic evolutionists (for example) who are NOT going against the word of God AND use science to support their beliefs.
But I am curious about the answer to the question (and not the post ceding comment).

Bonus Question:
Do they see the irony in these actions?
