when and where is the 1000 year regin of christ.

I was reading REV 19+20 and I noticed something that I never had noticed before the kings of the earth are slain, satan is bound a 1000 years, the saints regin 1000 years, satan is loosed decieves nations, they march over plain, surround city then are destroyed, Then the New Jerusalem comes down out of heaven.

The saints regin 1000 years with christ. Where???? I have always believed it is in heaven, but in the text it seems it is on earth. How else could satan surround the city? and what city is it? It is not the New Jerusalem it has not come down out of heaven? puzzle? please read the passage before responding. I don't want people statment from EGW. I know what she says already . i want to discuss what what the bible says, the evidence and how we came to the conclusions we came to. restating your beliefs is not what is acceptable. Why and how you came to that view. Thank-you

Rev 20:8 & 9 are quoting from Ezek 38:2 & 22. The gog and magog from Ezek 38:2 are symbols, types of chieves of nations that are in enmity with God and His people. So the real battle isn't a physical battle that surrounded Jerusalem like in the OT in type. It's rather a spiritual battle.

The clear explaination to your question is Rev 20:9. The fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.

1 Thess 4:17 tells us the redeemed will be caught up to the Lord, to meet the Lord in the air, so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The (third) heaven is where God is. After the 2nd coming, the severed relationship will be restored. God and His people will forever dwell together. So the fire will come down from God out heaven, which is the city.

Hope this helps,

As far as I am aware there has only been one city that God loves. That is Jerusalem.

Luke 13:34 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

I don't know if its relevant but Psalm 122 may be an interesting read as well in relation to this topic... I had never noticed it before. Thank you for bringing up this topic.

In Rev 3:12 and Rev 21:2, 9-10 John says that the new Jerusalem is God's city and his bride coming down out of heaven.

It is best to see what the Bible says about this subject.

How did the Saviour say it would be in the days of the Son of man (or when the Son of man would be revealed)?
"And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man." Luke 17:26. Luke 17:26. Read also verses 27-30, and Matthew 24:37-39.

How was it in the days of Noah?
"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." Genesis 6:5.

How did Paul characterize the last days?
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come." 2 Timothy 3:1.

What will make those times perilous?
"For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." 2 Timothy 3:2-5.
But will not this state of things grow better before the Lord comes?"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived." 2 Timothy 3:13.

"Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn." Matthew 13:30.

How long is the "little horn" (Daniel 7:25) to make war with the saints?

How many classes of people will there be on the earth when the Lord comes?

What will those who are in darkness say when they hear about the Lord's coming?

What will be popularly taught in the last days?
"But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." But are not the heathen to be given to the Lord for an inheritance?
"Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession." Psalms 2:8.

Then instead of looking for the conversion of the world, what should be the hope of the church?

Events Connected with
the Millennium

What great event will take place at the coming of Christ?
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17.

I hope this helps clear things up.
Where will the saints then be taken?
"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:2,3.
In what condition will the earth be after the coming of Christ?
"I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light." Jeremiah 4:23.
"I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger." Jeremiah 4:26. (Isaiah 24:1-3).
Will any man be living on the earth at that time?
"I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled." Jeremiah 4:25. (Zeph. 1:3).
What is to become of those who are not caught up to heaven with the Lord?
"A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD." Jeremiah 25:31.(2 Thessalonians 1:7, 8).
How long will these resurrected saints reign with Christ in heaven?
"And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years." Revelation 20:4.
When were these made to live?
"Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." Revelation 20:6.

What will be Satan's condition during the thousand years?
"And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years." Revelation 20:2.
Where will he be kept?
"And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season." Revelation 20:3.
Where is the bottomless pit?
"And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit." Revelation 9:2.
What is Satan's occupation up to the time of his binding?
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 1 Peter 5:8.
In what sense are we to understand the binding of Satan?
The saints are taken to heaven at the coming of Christ, and the wicked fall dead at His presence, to remain thus during the thousand years. Satan's occupation is gone; there is nothing left for him to do but to wander over the desolate earth, and view the terrible work of which he is the author. There is now no one for him to tempt, and he is therefore bound in his operations.
What will release Satan from this condition?
"But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection." Revelation 20:5.
"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison," Revelation 20:7.
For how long a period will he be loosed?
"And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season." Revelation 20:3.
In what work will he immediately engage?
"And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea." Revelation 20:8.
What will be the result of their effort to take the city?
"And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them." Revelation 20:9.
What statement will thus be fulfilled?
"Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it." Psalms 37:34.
How many will escape this second death?
"Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." Revelation 20:6.
What will be the effect of the fire?
"For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch." Malachi 4:1.
What, besides the wicked, will feel the effect of this fire?
"But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men." 2 Peter 3:7.
What will be the result?

THE BIBLICAL MILLENNIUM

We live in the last days of history. The end of life as men now know it is nearly ended. Soon Jesus will return. We only have one period of probation and that is during our present life. The Millennium will not be a thousand years of glory and peace here on earth. And it will not be an age of technological progress or a "second chance" for the wicked. All mankind will not be converted before it, during it, or after it. And neither Christ nor His redeemed ones will be on the earth during that thousand years.
Here is the truth about the Millennium and the events that mark its beginning and end:
1. Jesus is going to return for His people: He promised us that He would (John 14:1-3), and so we can know that He will.
2. There are four identifying marks of His Second Advent that cannot be counterfeited by false Christs:
(a) He will come so that all alive on the earth at that time can see Him return (Revelation 1:7; Acts 1:9; Matthew 24:30, 23.27).
(b) He will come so all can hear Him as He returns (Matthew 24:31; 1 Thessalonians 4:16).
(c) He will come in immense glory, that of His own and the millions of angels that will come with Him (Luke 9:26; Matthew 28:2-4; Matthew 25:31; Revelation 6:14-17).
(d) He will come unexpectedly (Matthew 24:44; 24:36).
3. His Second Coming will mark the beginning of the Millennium. Six events will take place:
(a) He will raise the righteous dead (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
(b) He will catch up the righteous living together with the resurrected righteous dead-to meet Him in the clouds (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
(c) He will change their vile bodies to be like unto His glorious body (Phil. 3:20-21) and translate them (1 Corinthians 15:51-55; Isaiah 25:9).
(d) Having gathered all the righteous (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18; Matt. 25:34-40; 24:30, 31), He will take His redeemed ones to heaven (John 14:1-3; 17:24; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).
(e) He will destroy the living wicked with the brightness of His coming (Luke 17:26-30; 2 Thessalonians 2:8).
(f) He will bind Satan to this earth (Revelations 20:2, 3).
4. During the Millennium, the earth will be desolate (Revelation 20:3; Jeremiah 4:23-26; Isaiah 24:1, 3), the wicked are dead (2 Thessalonians 2:8), there is no man left (Isaiah 24:20-22; Jeremiah 4:25, 26; 25:31-33), Satan is bound on a desolate earth (Revelation 20:1-3), and the righteous are in heaven (Revelation 20:4, 6; Daniel 7:22) engaged in a work of judgment (Revelation 20:4; 1 Corinthians 6:1-3; Acts 24:25; Jude 6).
5. At the close of the Millennium, the Holy City descends from heaven (Revelation 20:9; 21:1-5; Zechariah 14:4,9); the wicked are raised, the "second resurrection" (Revelation 20:5, first part), and Satan is thus loosed to deceive them again (Revelation 20:7-8); Satan and the wicked surround the City to take it (Revelation 20:8, 9); all of the wicked are destroyed (Revelation 20:9), and this earth is made new (Revelation 20:1-5; 2 Peter 3:10-14).

Thank you JF5000 that was an incredible study full of Biblical support for the sequence of the millenium. I think the problem icedragon101 has is in the sequence of the scriptures. What needs to be realized is the sequence of the scriptures in Revelation are not always chronological in time. IOW, in Rev 20:4-15 we have the accounts of the judgement in heaven given to the saints verses 4,the resurrection of the wicked which causes the release of the dragon from his prison , verse 7, the destruction of the wicked around the holy city in verse 9-10. Then the great white throne judgement is portrayed in verse 11-15 where God judges all the wicked before they are even burned but the wicked were shown to be destroyed back in verse 9-10. See the inversion? It's not chronological.

Then in chapter 21 John describes the Holy City coming down from God out of heaven and the earth being made new again. Well, we know this had to happen before the wicked were burned because it speaks of them surrounding this holy city in Rev 20:9. Don't get confused with all of this, just know that these events that are portrayed in Revelation are not sequenced chronologically time wise in the Bible.

I agree that the time is not always sequential.

It is an interesting issue. Was discussing it on the phone with ID some time ago.

Revelation gives more details than other books. But sometimes the exact nature of those details is hard to pin point.

In the more literal accounts we see that we are caught up to meet Jesus in the air (parable of weeds, gathered by angels into the barn, I Thess. 4, caught up to meet the Lord, etc.).

This would seem to support the heaven idea.

On the other hand a strict chronological reading of Rev. would not.

This is further complicated by the fact that in Revelation we see a distinct second resurrection separated by 1k years, where other Scriptures seem to either compress the time or refer to only one.
