Just an FYI, in case you didn't know, Robert Jordan's wife Harriet and his brother have selected a writer to finish the series. The last time I checked, they weren't sure if the series would be completed in one book or two, but it's being written right now.

The author selected is named Brandon Sanderson, and you can find his website, with updates on the final book(s) here. I've read the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, and enjoyed them. Robert Jordan left a lot of notes on how the book was to end, so its just up to Brandon to put it all together.

I loved this book series as well, though it did drag a bit around 5, 6 and 7 - but then the pace picked back up, and was exciting to read and try to guess what was going to happen. However, I always wanted to scream whenever a new character was introduced, even in the last few books written, as there are SO many characters to keep track of! :)

i know this is an old thread but i just started reading this series back over christmas break and its amazing! im only on book 7 because of school and whatnot but this is the single best series ive ever read. and i read a lot! ive already got books 8-12 stacked in my room just waiting on me! i am sad that he died but im happy that its getting finished. the chronicles of amber left me wanting more because roger zelazny set up the ending like there was going to be another series...and sadly he died but no one picked the series back up...its a good read and i recommend it to anyone along with the wheel of time.

I had the first three books on my bookshelf forever, they intimidated me in size. Last August I began the first one. My plan was to finish the series just in time for the release of the final book. Didn't happen like that, I read all 13 books in about 10 months. Now I'm stuck waiting.

Yes, the series really did drag in the middle, but overall it has been fantastic. Sanderson has done a good job keeping things going with the exception of Matt, who so far he does not know how to write (which is sad because he's my fave).

Unlike Jordan in later books, Sanderson is actually taking the series somewhere.

My favorite part is how he finally gets around to killing those Shaido that none of us cared about, in like a prologue or first chapter. The Shaido that Jordan had Perrin running around after for 5 books. So delicious. Yes, he finally wipes them out, and then Faile puts Masema the Prophet down like a mad dog (well, which he is) and lies to Perrin about it. :) :) :)

Oh, for the most part what Sanderson has done with things have been great. He's gotten all the characters right, and is leading us somewhere.....besides Matt.

Matt used to be like Han Solo. Now he's more like Harry Potter. He was the guy's guy, the man, and now he's someone who's trying to pretend to be the man, but really isn't. Sanderson has him obsessed about women..... I did love the final scene with him in the Tower, though, and how that ended. That was pretty sweet.

I gave up after book 6 because I was frustrated with the lack of movement -- not only were the main threads not going anywhere, but RJ kept adding subplot after (IMO unnecessary) subplot that further bogged things down. Then having to juggle all these subplots (and focusing on some really annoying characters) killed the momentum for the few threads I liked. Complexity does not necessarily equal quality.

i actually like most of the subplots....they all end up meaning something later.

I'm sure they do end up meaning something, but when I read Lord of Chaos in ca.1998 it was the most recent entry, and there was no telling how many more books were to follow. The first 3 or 4 books were fun, but by the end of the 6th book I couldn't hang any longer.

some get tied up along the way and more get started. its a huge world with a lot going on. ive really liked it. the middle books tended to drag but they were setting up for the end of the series so i was ok with that. you might wanna give it another go seeing as the last one comes out in march.

I am also currently reading book 7 of the series. I quite enjoy reading the series, really. Even though the Aes Sedai are so manipulating it can be so disturbing at times.

That's pretty there to stay lol
