  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's your take on EA?

To be fair, GameOfDeath, the updated sports games are basically to keep up with rules and team changes. That's why people buy them. And they wouldn't be making these games if no one was buying them, so it's basically our fault for buying mediocre games.

Sure, I understand that completely. They need to update the gamest as the years progress. Maybe they should reduce the price as well to $20 or so until a major update is done to the series. I have no problem with EA personally and own several of their games but not consecutive years of them. I just wish people would not be such sheep per se in buying SO many copies EVERY year. But it seems that will continue as EA now I believe has exclusive rights to the NFL. They just have too much cash to throw around and it is making it hard for the competition. Hopefully they don't become a powerhouse in any other genres. Of course life and business isn't supposed to be fair and EA is pushing their advantage but their products' quality often isn't up to par with the amount of money they make off of it and it seems few people care.

SSX is the perfect counter to the argument, but SSX Tricky and 3 go back to prove my point again. Minor upgrades/effort yet EA doubles their money.

I can't find it now, but I once saw an image that had "EArth is next"... I think that summed up EA pretty well. They're more interested in bringing in the cash than actually producing a quality product. Now with them buying into Ubisoft, Edios looking to be on the brink of collapse, its starting to look bad for PC gaming.

Eidos too? They're really starting to monopolize the gaming world!

Eh. Even if they're only updating rules and teams, they still have to spend just as much time on the game. As far as I'm concerned, if people are willing to spend their money, then can we fault the company for taking advantage of it?

I love madden and nba live ea is the best thing to happen to the gaming industry

You have absolutely no idea what is good for the gaming industry. And I doubt EA, who refuse to pay their workers overtime while they slave away for 60-80 hours a week, are good for the industry.

EA made the original Sims and the Sims 2 as well. That's enough for me to say I like them. :D :)
actually...EA didn't come on board with The Sims...they bought out Westwood, which had owned Maxis. And since EA took them over, the game quality has seriously diminished.
Their sports themed games are ok - if you're into that sort of game. I'm not. But EA rushed the Maxis employees to get TS2 out in stores. The result? A game full of game-ending bugs. The same thing has happened with the first EP for TS2. Not only that, they are trying to control any financial gain from custom content by making the programs conflict with custom content not distributed by EA Games - which was not a problem in TS1. Personally, I'd rather wait a few more months and get a game that doesn't have major bugs that make the game unplayable, rather than spend my money when an EP is released, then have to wait 3 months for a patch.

My opinion? EA tanked Maxis when they bought out Westwood. I'm not saying the Maxis employees are at fault, they have to answer to the corporate moster known as EA - who appear more interested in the bottom line than a quality game. A shame Maxis employees couldn't buy themselves out from under EA and go back to making excellent games, free from bugs and profit-driven deadlines.
