I think they are all on some kind of sick and twisted reality show and they just don't know it. Soon they'll discover a holiday resort on the other side of the island where they forgot to look and all will be revealed.

My current theory is that the Island and the Others are actually at war with each other and that the Island brought the Survivors (and has brought other people in the past) there to help it fight the Others. Obviously, the Island hasn't won very often in the past, as the Others managed to kill (or otherwise eliminate) everyone but Danielle. I'm thinking that maybe children offer some sort of special threat to the power of the Others in its war with the Island.
I also think it is entirely possible (perhaps likely) that the Others are not people, but rather spirits or boogeymen of some sort that appear in human form. I guess this would make the war somewhat spiritual in nature. I'm still not entirely sure if the Survivors are actually still alive, though I'm leaning in that direction.

I think the someone choose the losties for whatever reason, kidnapped them, drugged them and brain washed them. The flashbacks we see of each character are what the others brainwashed them with.
Locke was never in a wheel chair, Charlie was never in a band, Kate was never on the run, etc...
Its all an experiment. There was never a plane crash, the losties were set on beach beside some plane reckage by someone. Someone is in control of everything that happens.
The smoke monster is one someones inventions.
