  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's your Jordan River?

I originally posted this on another forum that I frequent. This has been heavy on me lately. I know that I needed to hear this, maybe someone on this forum will get something out of it as well.

I was thinking about the story of Joshua. Moses had died, and Joshua was the man God selected to lead the people into the promised land. The only thing that stood between them and entering the promised land was the Jordan River -- a Jordan River that was at flood stage! We're not talking about the creek down behind my house -- this was a major river at flood stage! The Jordan was a barrier to carrying out God's purpose for the people of Israel.

What happened? God told Joshua to gather 1 man from each tribe. These 12 priests were to carry the Ark of the Covenant and set foot in the Jordan River. Set foot in a river that was a high flood, and was powerful enough to pull a man in and drown him! God said, "Trust me." So the 12 priests carried the Ark and placed their feet into the rushing waters of the Jordan. The water was blocked upstream (as God promised) and the Isrealites were able to walk to the other side. You know the rest of this story -- they defeated their enemies, and settled in the promised land. All because they had the faith in God to move past a barrier.

Now, think about this, what is your Jordan River? What is that barrier keeping you from following God's plan for your life? Mine was money -- I didn't feel that there was enough to plant a church. I am now moving ahead in faith. Sometimes God wants us to step into the Jordan before He does His thing.

I would say that my Jordan river is my size. I tend to make excuses as to why I can't do this or that because I am big. Such as, I sure would love to start holding services somewhere or at least Bible study, yet I wonder if my size will be a hindrance to my sharing the Gospel.
