I like Stairway a lot, but I think that it tends to get overrated. I had a friend who worked for a local radio station for several years (he's since moved to Chicago). Anyhow - it was a "classic rock" station and once a year they would have the "100 best rock songs." Stairway was always number one - Mike was both an on air personality and program director - he told me once he would never consider anything else.

Off the top of my head - a few I really loved growing up (and yes, it's an eclectic bunch)(and in no particular order):

"You Are the Sunshine of My Life" - Stevie Wonder

"Joy To The World" - Three Dog Night

"Goodbye Yellowbrick Road" - Elton John

"Magic Carpet Ride" - Steppenwolf

"Layla" - Derek and the Dominos

"Maggie May" - Rod Stewart

"Nights in White Satin" - The Moody Blues

"All Along the Watchtower" - Jimi Hendrix

"A Whiter Shade of Pale" - Procol Harem

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - The Beatles

"So Far Away" - Carol King (actually, the entire Tapestry album)

"Touch Me" - The Doors

"Imagine" - John Lennon

Totally forgot the Eagles - they did a lot of good stuff

Desperado

One of these Nights

I Can't Tell You Why

Take it Easy

Lyin' Eyes

I also forgot Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers.

BTW - glad to see a "musical" selection on your list. I love musicals, have all my life (thanks so much Mom). A couple of my favorites in that genre:

If Ever I Would Leave You - Camelot

As Long As He Needs Me - Oliver

Far From the Home I Love - Fiddler on the Roof

Somewhere
One Hand, One Heart - West Side Story (my all time favorite musical)

I told you my tastes were ecclectic;)

You have great taste. What's your favorite Dylan song? Your list of songs is good too.

Thank you. My fav Dylan song is Who Ya Gonna Serve.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Within the last year or so we were talking about LP's at work one day. Most of us had to restrain ourselves from kicking the one 30year old who said "What's an LP?":doh:

although i have a huge collection of 70s music..I find myself listening to contemptary christian music most of the time like third day and the newsboys
I love third day! One of my favorite songs is "Show me Your Glory".

I used to listen to alot of Cat Stevens - "Hard Headed Woman", "Peace Train". I had all his albums though I think Tea for Tillerman was my favorite. I also loved Supertramp - "The Logical Song", "Take the Long Way Home". "Bloddy Well Right", "Give a Little Bit." And I think one of the best albums of our time was Fleetwood Mac Rumors. I loved all the songs on that one!:)

You guys are bringing back so many memories....wow! I don't know why, exactly, but I think that if I would've had as good of a selection of Christian rock to listen to when I was a teen, I would've not backslid as bad as I did. The secular music was a lot better in those days, and I ended up running with the crowd that listened to the partying music to party. Now, the music that lifts the Holy Name of our Lord sounds better to me than what is on the secular charts (although there may be still some good bands), I just love to hear heavy-duty praise to the King!
