  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Blood Meridian (McCarthy) and The Road (McCarthy) are my favorite novels.

For a 14 year old I would recommend The Red and the Black (Stendhal), Great Expectations (Dickens), Catcher in the Rye (Salinger), and Siddhartha (Hesse).

Lord of the Flies (Golding), Blood Meridian, and The Road might give you nightmares ... :D

Ugh, I don't know why anyone would recommend Dickens to a teenager. He wasn't a great writer nor a particularly good storyteller (although I say that A Tale of Two Cities is worth reading anyway). But in general he was just an expert at putting lots and lots and lots and lots of words between two covers - which was fine for him, since mass printing had just been invented and he was being paid by the page.

I like the refiner fire series by Lynn Austen. I think she is a great christian author.
I also enjoy reading the wheel of time.
Mainly, I enjoy reading books in the fantasy genre.
Some christian biography books also touch my heart deeply.
