i love reading
cool man!!! reading is a great way to spend time. i just finished reading Seabiscuit a few weeks back, about the horse, and the movie with toby mcquire in it. Seabiscuit, for me, was almost an ethereal read. when i read that one of the author's (Laura Hillenbrand) favorite books was none other than Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, then, that really rocked me. P&P is my #1 with Seabiscuit somewhere near the top.

Without a doubt, I would have to say Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien singlehandedly created the genre of modern fantastical literature with that novel (and its not a trilogy, its a novel in 3 parts ;) ). His worldbuilding in literature is without peer, and his characters are insanely wonderfully developed. His side books for that universe, especially the Silmarillion, detail a beautifully intense world.

I actually loved the movies, because I made an effort to seperate the movies from the books. Even in the first one, theres enough different that you almost have to do that. From a geek's perspective, yeah there were alot of things you go like "Man, I can't believe they left that out!" or "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!" but for the most part I think they did a pretty good job translating the series. Its a hard job, and its really the only book to movie translation that I like.
