I changed my mind. Metallica's my favorite band now. After seeing Metallica perform Enter Sandman live with a Phenomenal Orchestra I have a new appreciation for each of the musicians.

I've always liked Kirk Hamett and he was always my second guitarist in the World, but now for me, he is my first and Satch (sorry satch, I still luv ya man) is my second.

And now also James Hetfield is my favorite singer in the world [use to be Ian Gillan (From Deep Purple)/&Geoff Tate (From Queens Ryche)]

So now again I say, for me, it is proudly Metallica! woo!

Thanks for the thread

my fav band since 02 has been mastodon, they r just straight up prog rock now but their catalogue is very sweeping, they have touched on basically al types of metal/rock, all their stuff is epic but my fav is leviathan(its about moby d*ck), their new album alot of you would like I think, its about a quadrapeligec(sp?) who gets lost in the spiritual world after death, each song details his journey, where eventually the evil spirt of Rasputin, uses his spirt to re-enter the material world, they album ends there, so I have to think there will be a continuation( rumored to be a film) the music fits the story perfect, no growling, IMO its a perfect theme album, its called CRACK THE SKYE , check it out!, like I say all their stuff is ace

I gave Folk/Viking Metal a listen. The only group that struck a chord with me was Amon Amarth. Very interesting compositions.

I love Amon Amarth. Though I can imagine some of their lyrics not sitting too well with some Christians.

I realize Folk Metal isn't for everyone but I cannot get enough of it. It's so epic, majestic and melodic. Viking Metal isn't really a musical genre but a lyrical genre. So Viking Metal bands could be from the Folk Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal or whatever sub-genre, but it's the content of their lyrics that determine whether they are Viking or not. It's the same with Pagan Metal.

its crazy how many sub genres metal has now, folk/viking metal LMAO awesome!!!!
Metal has a crazy amount of sub-genres. I'm not a fan of them all but I say the more the merrier! Just give me a fantastic melody and I'll listen to whatever sub-genre (or genre for that matter).
