  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

lol...It's really funny how many different ideas all of us have as to why we should or shouldn't have dairy products. And we all think that they are set in stone facts! Sounds to me like the scientific community probably can't make up their minds right now--which means that we can just decide to do whatever we feel like in regards to milk consumption, but not assume we're right

Let me throw out an interesting THEORY that I heard on national public radio a few months ago. "They" say that milk contains an enzyme that helps with weight loss--now if you drink 2% or Whole milk that effect is cancelled by the milk fat content--but if you drink skim milk that can actually encourage weight loss. Fact or fiction--who knows

Have a great day!

GOT MILK!!!

Some think its a strong factor in what a person's ideal diet should be like.
And some people think that I should get enema at regular intervals to maintain optimum health.

The blood type diet is bunk, as far as I'm concerned, and I haven't been able to find any facts to back any of it up. It's probably made the author of the book 'Eat Right for your Blood Type' a lot of money, though, which is precisely what he was after.

As far as the link that O'Factry posted (see below), I looked around some of the rest of the website, and it's full of wacked out conspiracy theories about the Rothschilds, the Illuminati, and other anti-semitic stuff. Pretty much like the milk article was just another wacked-out conspiracy theory.

http://www.rense.com/about/milk.htm

Also, Heidilein had a question about the Bible speaking of a land flowing with milk and honey, and whether it was cow's milk or not. I guess it could've been goats milk, but I believe cows milk would be more likely in that time. And I'm 99% sure that God wasn't speaking of a land flowing with mother's milk....somehow I don't think the Israelite women would take kindly to that idea.

What a quality website! It seems to be seriously claiming that dairy products are a principle cause of heart disease, cancer, cerebro-vascular disease, emphesema and more! What a complete load of rubbish! Last time I looked smking was a little of a bigger cause than milk for all of these problems...

And I have never heard milk cited as a cause of emphesema before! That made me laugh some!

The fact is, that I know of many other reasons for some of the facts stated... things that have nothing to do with milk. When I find those articals in new scientest, I'll post them. These articals just give a little more indeapth study as to other reasons that MIGHT or SEEM to explain things differently, based on experaments.

Of course, nutrition fads change all the time depending on the latest ripoff money earner or scientific finding.

So today milk is unhealthy but tomorrow it's healthy, and by the way a couple years ago they did find that if you feed cows a certain diet, (I THINK it was grains rich in healthy oil, but I could be confusing something) the fat in their milk had anti-cancer properties.

I seem to feel that vegetarian food is normal food, and that a little dairy and meat is a treat although I hardly ever eat meat.
I like that attitude.

Thank you, Sowellfan, there was a lot of common sense in your post. I like that - it's not easy to find in a discussion about nutrition! Everyone's got their own crazy ideas these days... Eatinging according to your blood type is just one of them.

Ha ha!

But at the same time ewww....

OR you could just eat the healthy oil yourself - cut out the middle man. Why let the cow get most of the anti-cancer benefits, and only get traces of it in your milk?

My youngest daughter is autistic and on a Gluten-free Casein-free diet.

Be careful, though. If you are going to be on a very restrictive diet, look into the problems that SOY can bring on for many as well. SOY (like "soy milk" is also not in her diet.

Soy can cause problems for some who have seizures.

Howdy! Sorry I am so late. I was out of state for a couple weeks.

Anywho, I figured that I should get my bum in here since I was named specifically. lol

Well, to be honest, I didn't say that there was anything "wrong" with milk. However, I know that drinking milk at the rate of "milk-a-holic" (lol) is not good for my body. Now, I'm not saying that having a cup of milk with dinner or having some poured over cereal is some big bad thing. However, when any person is polishing off the better part of a gallon in a day, it's just not good. Many people view their fluids as a free-for-all and don't count it into their calories for the day. I'm sure you can do the math on how many calories, fat grams, and grams of sugar a person is ingesting with that kind of consumption. Don't get me wrong..... I love milk. However, I don't see where it is benefitting myself or my family. If I am looking for calcium, there are much healthier ways of getting it. I'm not saying that people shouldn't drink milk, as I never have made that comment. Shoot, there's nothing wrong with it. For my personal choice though, I am regulating the amount of milk that I and my child consume.

Oh, and just as an FYI, I don't take calcium and magnesium to boost my calcium. I have plenty enough dark leafy greens to accomplish that. The suppliment is taken at low doses to help with my muscle cramps.

It's not the oil that is anti cancer, it's the way the cow prosseses the food and turns it to milk. Besides I don't remember if it is oil or what. (I read the artical when I was 17, my father was considering it seriously, and I was wondering about the quality of the milk where I lived) I think I forgot to say that these anti-cancer-benifits were found in the fat... (butter)

I am very lactose intolerant myself and i really dislike soy milk and all the alternative products made for lactose intolerant people ( cheeses, etc.) I really want ot enjoy dairy again so I have been doing some research on how to stregthn and improve my digestions system and overall health in general.

Has anyone heard of the Book The Maker's Diet ? . i just received a copy of it..it basically provides information based on the Bible and scientific proof on how one can improve their entire digestive system which is really is the focal point of or overall health. Maybe this diet could somehow help lactose intolerance ? check it out makersdiet.com

Im doing some more research on this so i'll keep this group updated, let me know if you also have info related to this.

thanks !!

This is not how you use the bible. It doesn't tell you to eat carrots or mashed potato.

I'd also like to say, God stated the 'land of milk and honey', but he never said what kind of milk! Maybe he meant soy milk.
Or maybe the Israelites being farmers thmselves drank, shock! horror!...cows milk, or even goats milk!!!

Milk is quite natural for mammalian young. The human body undergoes changes at about 18 months of age, wherein the production of lactase, the enzyme necessary to break down lactose, drops significantly. If it drops far enough, this leads to lactose intolerance. This opens the door to the idea that lactose intolerance may be more of a natural process than a disorder. The thing to remember about what we call, "lactose intolerance" is that the symptoms are often quite minimal and yet, many people go through their whole lives with a slight bleeding inside the small intestine due to the irritation of undigested lactose in their digestive tract. Aside from that, levels of lactose intolerance vary from race to race and from region to region. Numbers vary from source to source but populations of American Whites seem to be about 12-15% intolerant while Asians are about 90% intolerant to lactose and about 95% of African Blacks are lactose intolerant. I suppose if one wanted to rely upon a few phrases in the Bible, one could suggest that this is God's way of showing his chosen people. I would hope that reason and logic would prevent such thinking but history shows that the human race isn't strong on those subjects.

As far as the calcium argument goes, milk does contain a significant quantity of calcium. Why is it then that in countries and regions where milk consumption is high, osteoporosis is also high? The answer lies in the way the body handles blood pH levels. Everything you eat will have an affect on the pH level of your blood. Protein happens to cause the blood to become slightly acidic. The body responds by extracting stores of calcium from the bones. Since calcium is a base, this neutralizes the blood pH but now you have all this calcium floating about in the blood. The body reabsorbs a small quantity but has limited ability to assimilate calcium. The rest is filtered out by the kidneys and eventually ends up in the sewer system. Over time this may lead to a number of problems including osteoporosis and damage to the lumen in the kidneys.

As stated earlier, milk is an intended food for mammalian young but not for mammalian adults. The body undergoes changes which illustrate this and the problems with milk consumption should only serve to illustrate it further. Take into consideration the hormones, antibiotics and pesticides found in today's milk and the problem only gets worse. If you're the squeemish type, you might want to consider that in America, the FDA allows 750 million pus cells per liter of milk.
