  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's wrong with evolution?

With the greatest respect gorgeous, I have difficulty believing that an inteligent designer would come up with the beautiful intricate simplicity of the Kreb's cycle, or the amazing function of the liver, and at the same time fail to realise that using the same design of spinal column for both bipeds and quadrupeds would cause serious problems. Chance mutation and chance provide an adequate explanation for the diversity we see today, given a long enough time frame and large enough populations, and ALSO explains why some of the design features implicit in animals seem to be jury rigging and co-opting of existing structures, in a "near enough is good enough" sort of way. Evolution only has to get a system adequate for passing on genes successfully to the next generation. I would expect an inteligent designer to be a bit more... well, intelligent, bluntly. Blind chance evolution provides a better explanation than a half-arsed designer who couldn't see that that whole detachable retina feature, or swim blader to lungs compromise was going to end up causing problems.

Simply put, if there is an inteligent designer, I want to know why the hardware isn't more user friendly?
cos I think I was eloquent and stuff

First of all, evolution requires lots and lots and lots of time. It needs a universe that has been around for billions of years. But, like Yasic pointed out, if you reverse-engineer the genealogies, you'll see that the universe has only been around for 6000 years --- not nearly enough time for evolution to do it's dirty work.

Second of all, evolution is dirty work. It sends out two "hit men" to do its evil:
  • survival of the fittest
  • natural selection
Both of these characters violate God's principles of love and harmony --- and thus cannot be of God.

Thirdly, Jesus, Himself always talked about Creation - He never once mentioned evolution - not even using "the language of the times". And as followers of Jesus Christ, I don't see how Christians should be embracing evolution, either.

Fourthly, after God created the universe in six days, He pronounced it "very good" - (perfect). And that would mean there's no room for improvement, thus evolution need not occur.

Your first point is only valid if the bible is a factual account, which it isn't: it's a collection of allegorical stories written entirely by men in an attempt to explain who they are and where they came from.

Survival of the fittest would be better explained with by saying "survival of those who adapt to changes better". Natural selection is a part of this in that it is those who survive, adapt and are able to breed who have the best chance of making it.

Your third point is just an argument from authority: to say that Jesus said this is that is immaterial because of the likelihood of pretty much all of it having been based on a minor character from Judea, with his words being added later as people edited and altered them to suit the early development of the christian mythology.

Your last point is another silly argument and also one for the trash heap. Saying god or any other deity declared whatever to be whatever makes no difference. Besides, a discussion about evolution is not theological in any way shape or form, so theology should be left out of it. You should try sticking to basic scientific facts and principles.

haha, i just read this from the first page;
  • God created the earth before the sun.
  • Evolution has the sun before the earth.
  • God created the birds before the land animals.
  • Evolution has the land animals before the birds.
  • God created plant life before the sun.
  • Evolution has the sun before the plants.

oh my does that have some inconsistencies

god created the earth before the sun, how? the earth needs the sun to survive. and without the sun, what the hell is anything in this galaxy revolving around?

and the part about the plants being before the sun, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH do you guys know about photosynthesis? there would be no plants without the sun, therefore the sun HAS to have come before the plants.

and also, one more point about evolution, if the earth was created 6000 years ago by this dude god, EXPLAIN THE DINOSAURS, HUH, scientists have proved that they were around about 50 million years ago, sooooooooooooooooo i think god missed the boat by about 49,994,000 years.

Please do not start this. Such a bad idea. I can see them gearing up now. They're gonna start their garble in a few minutes, and I blame youl.

well there WERE dinosaurs and i want to know what all these people have to say about the matter, i mean, they have been FACTUALLY PROVEN TO HAVE EXISTED, so it'll be pretty funny to see what reasons people have as to them not existing

i know it isnt a credible site but i just checked out the wikipedia page on; animals that were in the bible, it says that the unicorn mentioned was actually an ox with two horns and the dragons were large serpants such a snakes, any way, i still want an explanation as to where the dinosaurs fit in

I'll refer you to AVET for a fully hilarious explanation of this.
