[quote edited by moderator-here]Joseph Smith the founder of Mormonism (and the branches that have tried to seperate themselves from it, LDS etc) was looking for buried treasure when he supposedly found the "golden plates" he claimed they were a new revelation from God, (also claimed an angel appeared beside his bed telling him he was the Lord's annointed prophet for this dispensation) He claimed the plates were in "reformed Egyptian" no such language exists. Oliver Cowdery [quote edited by moderator here]was the man Joseph chose to be the scribe for his "new revelation" Joseph alone saw the "golden plates" even the scribe did not see them, Joseph "translated" the non-existant language, oddly 25,000 words of the book of mormon were directly taken from the KJV, some verbatim quotations of considerable length. Martin Harris claimed to have seen the "golden plates" but in a conversation with Professor Anthon denied that he had actually seen them, and when pressed he stated he only saw them with "the eyes of faith.
[edited by moderator -here] God has never changed, the plan of salvation after Jesus has not changed, throughout the entire bible the message has been the same, saved by FAITH.
mormanism, along with most of the other religions out there, teach you have to work your way to heaven, tithing unfortunatly is one thing joe got right, and that seems to be the main reason behind the hostility to them on these forums, although when joe translated that if you don't tithe you'll go to hell. he showed the main reason behind his "prophecies, money the very thing he was looking for when he found the "golden plates" You won't go to hell if you don't tithe but as a sinner freed from the bondage of sin we want to give God what is his, and whatever else we can to help further the gospel and help the church.(which is his) God did not put a penalty of death on not tithing, that was the act of a greedy human.
If someone were to seek out mormonism to find eternal life, they would undoubtedly become confused on how to achieve this, in; 111Nephi 12:2 and Moroni 8:11 it states that baptism is needed for the remission of sins, but in the doctrine of the covenants chapter 20 vs 37, it states the direct opposite, "all who humble themselves....and truly manifest by their works that they have received of the spirit of Christ unto the remission of sin, shall be received by baptism.." not the only countradiction by far. He even countradicts the perverted revelation he received that you are by law to have more than one wife.
[edited by moderator here]This is the foremost reason behind my distaste for the religion
