Yesterday (Sept 15) the low temperature at Griffiss Station in the western Mohawk Valley in Upstate New York was 36F (2C) and the high temperature was 63F (17C). Leaves are almost entirely green with occasional patches of color. Today temperatures are expected to reach the middle 70's. However there has been a shift in weather patterns to cooler autumnal temperatures with cLear skies. Temperatures in the next several days are expected to mainly have afternoon highs in the 69's with early morning lows in the 30's wit clear skies Area creeks are dry. There is a high fire danger in New Hampshire and Maine. In this area skies have been clear and hazy. The haze is reportedly due to fires on the West Coast. Air quality is not effected.

Correction to the post above. High temperatures in the next several days are expected to be in the 60's. The exception is today with temperatures expected to reach into the middle 70's. Skies will be clear. These are conditions which should be ideal to bring out vibrant leaf color.

The low temperature Sept 19 at Griffiss in Upstate NY was 30 F (-1C). The prior record low for the date was 33F (1C). The high temperature was 59F (15C).

Yesterday afternoon I travelled into the Adirondack Mountains. From Old Forge to Inlet to Blue Mountain Lake leaves were at partial color, with vivid colors and red predominating. Afternoon temperatures were mainly in the low 50's with most people wearing jackets. Old Forge was crowded with little capacity for social distancing.

Today it's sunny. Upper 70's, at 2 pm, pdt.
There's a haze in the air from the smoke of the California fires. But nowhere near as bad as earlier this week.

We've been loving the fresh air since Friday.

On Sept 21 in the greater Utica NY area in Upstate New York there was some limited leaf color change ( yellow, orange, red). The temperature range was 66F (19C) to 33F (1C).

Leaf color change on Sept 24 from Utica to Clinton NY was partial with bright vivid colors and still overwhelmingly green. The high temperature was 76F (24C). It was 30F (-1C) on Sept 19. The definition of Indian Summer is summer like weather occurring after the first frost so this would fit the criteria for Indian Summer. Temperatures today and over the weekend are expected to reach the lower 80's the weather has been mainly sunny and clear and rainless. There are alerts for forest fires.

The high temperature on Sept 28 was 83F (28C) at Griffiss in Upstate New York. This was the warmest day in a stretch of 3 days with temperatures in the low 80's. Leaves are predominantly green with many bright colors (orange, yelliow, red) emerging. An exceptional autumn so far with mainly sunny clear weather which brings out vivid colors.
