My older brother and nephew live near Portland. I think that weather patterns for both of us this year have been pretty strange. I remember years past comparing our temperatures in the summer. Here it was 110 and there it was 75. Many folks in Oregon think that 95 is frying. My brother used to rub it in saying they didn't need an air conditioner.

It's cooler here also. Our high today was 69F and it's 57F right now. We have rain and storms forecast over the next several days.

WHOA! 86 degrees now! They say it feels like 90. The low on Thursday will be 39 and next Sunday the low will be 38 (if their predictions are correct)

Buckets of rain and many small tornadoes. Nobody has been hurt or killed that I've heard of. We even had a tornado touch down within a few miles of our house.

Large areas were destroyed, almost like bombing. 18 people were killed and many were wounded, and those numbers may go up. Many people lost everything, so prayers would be appreciated.

Recovery takes a long time. I've never had to deal with it, but my relatives in Miami and Homestead did with Andrew in August 1992.

I've now watched two or three news specials on the aftermath of Hurricane Michael. Most of the best photography was from helicopters, and it was almost unbelievable. Many homes were destroyed completely down to the foundations. At least most of the people are accounted for now. The damage resembles tornadoes - just a much larger area.

One person described it as tornadocane when it hit N. C.. So sad.
