  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

upc and aljc both believe in 1 GOd...whose name is Jesus...not the trinity

they believe in being baptized "in Jesus name" for the remission of sins

and receiving the holy Ghost...with the eveidence of speaking in tongues

acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

acts 19:6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

acts 2:4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance

acts 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

all that above is the evidence of the holy Ghost living inside you

now there is the gift of tongues also...they r 2 different things

It's quite possible. Looking back, I believe the church I grew up in is non-denominational, but covered by Full-Gospel Businessmen.

My mom grew up in a strict home that, from what she tells me, seemed to be defined by religion. She wasn't allowed to wear pants, jewelry, curl her hair (although my grandmother did allow her to for special occasions), wear makeup, dance, play cards or watch television (my grandfather broke this one watching wresting:confused: )

There were a few things I'm not sure were religion inspired such as no riding a bike, a sled, etc.

She still insists on wearing dresses to church, and as a result, I generally do to (just tradition), doesn't have her ears pierced (but does like most other jewelry), BUT curls and colors her hair frequently.

I know where these beliefs come from, but are they still adhered to today in some Pentecostal churches? Or are the differences we're talking about just in regards to tongues and such?
I have a rather interesting story. I was not raised United Pentecostal, but came into the church when I was 14. My grandmother, however, was raised United Pentecostal, but I did not know that until I came into the church. I am no longer UPC for reasons I do not want to go into right now. But, it appears that your mother was indeed raised UPC. The "standards" in UPC have changed over the years. They now will allow you to curl or perm your hair, but that depends on your individual church's regulations, of course. I've heard it said that women used to not be allowed to wear red, wear bows or accesories in their hair, or wear open-toed shoes. This is no longer a problem with the UPC. However, women are still not permitted to cut their hair, wear pants, sleveless shirts, makeup, or jewelry. They can wear wedding rings and watches, though. Men are not permitted to have facial hair or to wear shorts. Different churches have different rules, though. For example, some churches don't permit bowling, while other churches say it's okay. Aside from physical standards are the speaking in tongues, baptism in Jesus name and things like that. I still carry many of the UPC beliefs, but just not the physical standards. I believe in modesty and holiness, but I just feel like the UPC has gone a little overboard with control with that stuff. I hope this answers some of your questions.

Mespie,

I was UPC and my best friend is ALJC. I do not call myself a trinitarian, but I currently attend a church with "trinitarian" beliefs. I have learned that trinitarians believe in one God as well. They just emphasize the three different aspects of God as mentioned by Jesus himself several times in the New Testament. After all, Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:". Of course, He knew the disciples had the understanding that Jesus was the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. That's the big bone of contention between trinitarians and oneness faith. If any of you trinitarians out there would like to comment on what I'm saying, please do. I've learned to never be so proud that I think I know it all and our other Christian brothers and sisters know nothing. We all came from one faith and have branched off over the years. God bless.:)

Actually yes. In my old church, we weren't allowed to wear jewelry (unlessit was a wedding ring), pants, peircings, we couldn't cut our hair, wax/pluck our eyebrows. The rules/ norms even went as far as women not being able to shave our legs, we couldn't dance, listen to worldly music, wear lip gloss, as well as alot of other things. In the church that i'm in now, we still can't wear pants or earrings or necklaces (althoug we do for special occasions). In this church I believe that they realize salvation does not come from your material things or from your outer appearance.I feel like everyone needs to start believin in that!!!
