Without being offensive to the Lutheran Brothers and Sisters, The Lutheran Confession of Faith is here:

http://www.christianforums.com/t3113200-the-augsburg-confession.html

This will explain their "core" beliefs.

And here is basicly what Baptists believe:

http://www.christianforums.com/t1479209-what-do-the-baptists-believe.html

There are a few to chose from, and being since I'm a Southern Baptist, I agree to the Baptist Faith and Message of 2000.

Lutherans tend towards replacement theology, liturgical services and are sometimes (jokingly - and no offense meant here, my mother was raised Lutheran) called "Catholic-lite".

Baptists tend towards dispensationalism, or at least something close to it, and are in that strain more evangelical than the Lutherans.

Church governance is also vastly different, with Lutherans having an authoritative church government form, with various levels of clergy making decisions. Baptists on the other hand are completely independent, each church choosing it's own form of government, and the corporate denomination only having a say in local church bodies in the most extreme of circumstances - and even then they have no authroity over that local church, they just sometimes remove them from the denominational group.

I have not be to church in a while, last time I was 23 or 24 and I'm now 34. I may not remember a whole lot so be easy on me, I'm just trying to figure out where I need to go to church. I have one friend that tells me Lutheran is no different that baptist, except for baptism, and another tells me that Calvinist is the only way.

Between the lutheran church and the baptist church?

Since I was confirmed Lutheran (Wisconsin Synod) but now I am an Independent Baptist I should respond.

Both "denominations" can vary a great deal. For example the Wisconsin Synod is typically very conservative but the E.C.L.A. can be a very liberal church. The Southern Baptist Church is typically pretty conservative but the American Baptist Church can be very liberal. Baptists sometimes show a great deal of respect to Martin Luther. In the Lutheran church you typically will read a lot on Luther and hold to his teachings closely.

Some basic differences between nearly all Baptists and Lutherans

1. Baptists don't believe in baptizing infants, only born again believers.
2. Lutherans believe the wine and bread at communion are more then just wine and bread that represents Christ's blood and flesh.

I for one love to learn from many conservative Lutherans. Some actually don't hold very much to the 2 things I listed above as far as I understand.

I hope this post helped instead of confusing you more.

By the way someone says Baptists think dancing is wrong and slacks are not OK for women. Most Baptist churches are not that way. Most would say modest dress for men and women is what is required. Also dancing is OK as long as it isn't sexual like a lot of dancing that goes on in clubs.

Man made tradition? Don't Baptist not allow women to wear slacks to church and don't allow any dancing what so ever in church?

Not all Baptists. But, those things you mention are all biblical. Read Corinthians, Dueteronomy, and someone help me out here, what are the others that show these issues?

At any rate, you must remember that there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of different Baptist denominations and/or groups. What you mention is mainly an Independent Fundamental Baptist view.

I'm sorry DD I don't have the time to read all that. Is there a Lutheran section on here so I can ask them?

Yes there is, in the Congregational area, it is called:

Theologia Crucis - Lutherans

You may go there and ask questions of anybody. I'm sure they will be more than happy to explain their beliefs.

Glad to help.

God Bless

Actually those aren't biblical and you are right they are traditions. However, at least with the SBC, the chucrches are relatively independant in there authority.

Please read your Bible and you will see they are Biblical. Just because you do not follow them, or disagree with it, does not make it unbiblical.

We could start a whole debate thread on this subject. But, please let's now.

OK, I'll agree to not debate the issue now and we can agree to disagree on the pants and dancing issue. :)

I didn't say I practiced it, I just said it is in the Bible. :)

I told my Pastor once, "Good luck convincing my wife to only wear a dress!!" Even his wife disagreed with it when they were first saved.

Someone should start a thread about these issues. It would be interesting!

God Bless Brother!

Perhaps a more accurate statement I could have made would be....to hold people to a standard of dresses only or no dancing (this one I have yet to find in the Bible) is unbiblical.

ok, ok, I'll start the thread.:D
