  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's the difference?

honestly, in some cases, not much. Non-denominational just sounds less 'religious' to some folk so they prefer to say they are non-denom. Non-denoms come in all shapes, beliefs and sizes though so the difference really just depends upon which church you are discussing.

between pentacostal (sp?) amd non-denominational?
Pentacostal is a denomination. Here's one example: http://www.iphc.org/home.html I've attended a couple Pentacostal churches and they generally believe in the "Gifts of the Spirit" like speaking in tongues, prophesy and many other things.

Yes, I have met some in person and on CF that do believe that. It's sad I think.

unfortunately, in a number of non-denominational churches (non-denom by name only) there can be a number of extraBiblical beliefs - not found in the Bible or they take a verse here or there from the Bible and twist it to fit their needs.

You need to be careful in any church you attend, no matter the denomination. Don't assume that just because you've been to a similar church in another town, that the new church will be just as good. Sometimes pastors and congregations can really be heading in the wrong direction. Test everything by the Bible. If something doesn't fit, you may need a new church.
