  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

who was Jesus praying to in this verse? Himself?

John 17:1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should F92 give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. .........

Jesus can't be the Father in the flesh. Jesus and the Father are obviously separate somehow.
John 10:30
I and my Father are one.

C'mon... everybody knows there's 7 Spirits in all... where do you come up with one or three???

Revelation 3:1
And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

Jesus was manifested to proclaim the Father by the Holy Spirit(s) (sic)...

Just kidding on the (s) part, but we all agree to worship One True God, do we not???

Let me ask you a question! If God and Jesus were seperate wouldn't that break the commandment "Though shalt have no other God's before me?" If there were two beings how would know which one to worship? Many times in the bible Jesus says the he is the only true God

Exodus 8:10
So he said, "Tomorrow." And he said, "Let it be according to your word, that you may know that there is no one like the LORD our God.

Deuteronomy 6:4
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one![6:4 Or [The L!SCORD!EC is our God, the L!SCORD!EC alone ] (that is, the only one)]
Matthew 19:17
So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good?[19:17 NU-Text reads [Why do you ask Me about what is good?] No one is good but One, that is, God.[ NU-Text reads There is One who is good.] ] But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."

Mark 12:32
So the scribe said to Him, "Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.

So if there is only no other but God, then how can they be two seperate beings? You ask how can it be possible for God and Jesus to be one, well under that same question I can ask "How can is it possible for God to created the Universe?" "How is it possible for Jesus to bring the dead (Lazarus) to life?" There is only one ansewer to those questions, He's God;) It requires faith to believe. Many Blessings

this is my favorite verse about the Godhead. Isaiah 9:6 gives us a prophecy of the coming Messiah.
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
So Jesus will be called Counsellor, (or Comfortor--Holy Spirit) God, Father, and Prince. It is a mystery just like the creation of the world, the great flood, etc. Nevertheless, it's true. He is all of these things.

"For in him (Jesus) dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Col. 2:9

Lynne--you said:

but here we see: "...great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." I. Tim. 3:16
