That leaves us stuck reading mostly with material written prior to the 1960's.

"Counting coup and cutting horses" By Anthony McGinnis is quite interesting.

Why ? Books like Empire of the Summer Moon was released 2010

Material from before that tends to be more of a "matter of fact" style of writing. Afterwards we started to see plenty of revisionist history until the last few decades. That may have been discussed in the book I mentioned.

sn't there a modernist movement which is now blaming past colonialism as the cause of todays problems even to the point they want to tear down the entire system. I think they call it "Cancel Culture".

No, cancel culture is about what happened with the Dixie Chicks.

Yeah thats right, they wanted to cancel the figures that brought colonialism like Christopher Columbus, Captain Cook ect.

Columbus was not a very nice guy. Tried to enslave the people who were helping him, and tried to scam the Spanish King and Queen. Didn't go well for Chris. On the other hand, Cook was generally well regarded by the people whose lands he visited. Even when he was killed in a fight over some stolen wood, the Hawaiians treated his body with respect that would be given to a king or a high priest.

European discoverers were not all thugs, although some of them certainly were.

None of this is cancel culture.

Ok well according to most articles I am reading it seems it is. The next targets of cancel culture are figures like Lincoln and Washington.

Cancel Culture's Next Targets: George Washington and Abe Lincoln

Looks like that's the problem, then. Dixie Chicks to Captain Cook to Lincoln, um?

Really?
Yes the whole idea is irrational and an attempt to control others and what can and cannot be spoken and taught so that a new narrative is ushered in according to those who think they know better.

Yeah, like the attempt to stop history books from talking about the race riots in Little Rock and the Tulsa Race Massacre.

A lot of that going around lately.
