Truth be told, I'm afraid of this every year. I read the Star Pheonix (News paper) and even sometimes the news on TV about this stuff. People do lose their jobs over these 2 simple words. Heck, I even saw on TV years ago this elderly lady who was so very shaken by the fact that people pray, and her fear of Christians somehow having an upper hand in Elections... Yeah, elections of all things!

In Canada? You really need to move to the US. lol I tell everyone I meet "Merry Christmas". Even if they get mad at me, I still say, "Well, I do wish you a Merry Christmas and that God will bless you". I'm become annoyingly cheerful when people curse me for saying "Merry Christmas".

Lol!! Yeah, in Canada! Canada, Saskatchewan to be more exact. It's so amazing to me that people get so offended by the word Christmas.

I LOVE saying merry Christmas over "happy holidays"

Especially love the uptightedness of ads like the one lowes printed a couple years back for a Christmas tree that instead called it a "Holiday Tree"

Funny, you don't hear them calling a menorah "Holiday candle holder".........

Of course, I LOVE to be found "highly offensive" on simple things.

If "Christmas tree" ruins your day..... you have FAAAAR too much time on your hands.

Even when I was an atheist, hearing Merry Christmas or Christmas tree.... didn't send me into a tizzy. Funny how "atheists" of today (outside of the minority it seems) have such thin skin as compared to my day.

You said Jesus or Christ around me.....

If there is someone to offend so easily.............. I'll be there.

I've still yet to meet any atheist that is offending by someone saying "Merry Christmas" to them.

But i only post in my own thread. But it was only one or two of them. The rest seemed fine and got my posts.

I just think..maybe best to leave it and pray for those who got offended. Because surely offenses will come. Jesus was highly offensive to the pharisees. He didnt mince his words.

why would I want to pick a fight with americans anyway?? All I did was just state my impressions of the ones I've met and of the country. And also my outsiders understanding of the politics.
I mean if it was the other way round and someone not from my country wanted to find out what it was like to live here in nz and talked about the kiwis they knew (good or bad) I wouldn't call them ignorant.

they might even have some insight into the country that I don't have as I'm native born, from visiting it. But people don't bother. They think just cos I'm not from there I can't say anything. I'm like whatever. It's just one thread in a sea of others.

I don't really dislike anyone, unless the give me good reason to..... (Im supposed to love everyone, I know, but Im human..... there ARE people that make it hard to love them )

Call me racist or bigot it means nothing to me. Im from the south.... everyone assumes that is who I am anyway. So meh.

I do notice that American's don't tend to be very good at banter. If you were to get an Englishman and a Scotsman together, they'd do nothing but insult each other. But it's only because we love each other deep down.

Then the booze would flow, and no one would care who said what. We'd be too busy having a good time.

yes I just find it difficult to actually talk to americans for any length of time. They have a different mindset and tend to believe they or their country is inherently superior to yours. I don't know why. Which is what I'm trying to figure out. I mean surface it's all friendly. Then..suddenly you get stabbed in the back by some kind of rogue comment thats left of field, or something so self-absorbed that you think, ok they live in a big powerful nation. They are isolated. They like to think everyone is jealous of them. Maybe?

Its different from French arrogance. I mean most of us don't care about GDP or statistics, like we are vying for the Guiness book of Records here.
