  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Im all for legal immigration and against illegal kind........ but there are more effective ways to spend the money.

For example, take away incentive to come here illegally.

Agreed. I mean, it works for some countries. But when youre trying to pay back a deficit, youre trying to figure out so many things, there has to be a better way. Hiring more agents and utilizing technology, etc.

Yep, the wall is a political band-aid and nothing more.

At best its the most expensive placebo ever subscribed.... nothing more. Its not a solution.

Of course try convincing people there is "no magic pill" to cure all...... in the world of "ask your doctor if this pill is right for you."

Build a wall....... people will just find a way over or under it.

You can't stop anyone from doing ANYTHING if they want to do it badly enough. All you can do is take away their desire and any "rewards" they may recieve if they do.

actually enforcing the law on immigration would remove the incentive to come here illegally.

I deal with that a lot at work... Not fun.

So management decided they want to send my brother way out of town for 12 weeks to help with a store that is in remodel. They told him it's a great opportunity for him to get noticed. It's like an hour and a half commute each way.

He decided it'd be a great idea to suggest to management that I go with him for the heavy lifting, cause I used to be an overnighter. No, he didn't ask me first, and no, he didn't consider that it might screw up my job.

And no, he didn't consider that they'll probably have to get a replacement for me while I'm gone because this thing is going to last for twelve weeks. And I'll probably get moved to a different department when I get back as a result. Lots of people in the store are waiting for an opening in vision-- lots of management's "favorites" are waiting.

My coworkers have resented me from the start and would only be too happy to see me go. The only job security I had was that I had a good relationship with the doctor, and was the only one who took the time with her to learn how she liked things done, so I could help her. And I'm the only one who does help her and doesn't act like she's bad at her job.
And no one cares that I really struggled on overnights and wasn't good at what they're gonna want me to do at this other store.

But hey, my bro might get noticed by the market manager, so....

And my parents are so worried about him having to commute by himself that they're fully on board with the idea of me having to ride with. It's no longer being presented to me as a choice. It's a, "oh sorry, but it might be fun, you'll see." or "if you say no, then it'll be really bad for your brother..."
