  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sounds like the church I left.

I take it the church you left favored the ones God was most generous to?

My biggest frustration with this world is that people don't seem to care about your ability to show empathy, compassion and character. Instead, they only care about your physical appearance, intelligence, social skills, talent and athletic ability. All of which was all accident of birth and did very little to earn those gifts and talents.

At least God doesn't fall into this high school mentality. He is indeed a breath of fresh air even if I do not always recognize it as such.

It is hard being that one talent person when no one respects you for it.

God blesses all of us in and with our situations. Matthew 5:45 He's generous to all of us, in my understanding, as He does not want all of us to perish.

But does the world see it that way? No. So, you're right to say that the highschool mentality stays and most of the world doesn't grow out of it, sadly. But there are those that have grown out of that phase, just have to seek them out, sometimes.

Why I left my church were due to many reasons and I'm currently seeking another that I just might be committed to. I just have to do more digging.

There's a song by the band "Bowling for Soup" that's called "High School Never Ends", it's a bit silly, but it has a good point.

Just listened to it. You were right.

I guess no one really leaves high school. It's always the popular and talented people who make it through life while weird kids like me are thrown away. High school was just an assessment of your social worth.

But no matter. Heaven will be the real world that I have been promised all my school life. With the ministry I partook, I'm hoping that I graduate with honors and finally enjoy an eternal life without all the classroom politics.

Read a rather uncomfortable thread in Married Couples. That poor guy, I had to reply.

I think I saw the one you are talking about in the sidebar, I didn't read the thread through.

Yeah, that's the one. Saw it purely by chance.

His wife has completely destroyed his life. And he thinks he's committing sin by contemplating divorce. She has comprehensively taken him to the cleaners.

It makes for devastating reading.

That's why I stay out of the Married section. I read a thread just last night that had me seriously contemplating if I even want to get married.

Some of those threads will definitely scare you.

They probably say the same thing about us. "That's why I stay our of the Singles section. I read a thread just last night that had me seriously thankful I got married."

I think it's important to always bear in mind that a lot has to happen in order for a marriage to reach that point... But, yeah, I know exactly what you mean. It isn't exactly inspiring.

Some of those threads are like watching an episode of Casualty.

"But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this." ~1 Corinthians 7:28

Marriage is not some Disney movie. There are many problems that can arise from trying to commit your life to a specific person.

Like I keep saying, I'm just going to wait until Heaven where we wont have all this conflict. In the mean time, I'm going to put my single status to good use.

There are so many hurting people in the world. Some seek their comfort in the arms of others, some alleviate it by lashing at people on the internet, some have become slaves to substance abuse.

And sadly, not enough empathy in the world.

True.

I think we're both depressing in our own ways. Lol

True, and I usually remind myself that sometimes in marriages like that there were red flags that were ignored and it just got worse with marriage, but even so Christian marriages are full of their share of conflict and hard times. It's all a result of sin in the world.

We're always going to have hard times whether we're single or married, but it definitely does make one take inventory of what they really do want and have to offer another person in marriage. And being picky isn't always a bad thing either.

Now that both of my teams are out, I think I'll root for Houston to win the Super Bowl. Before anyone laughs, I think they are a lot like my Broncos team last season. Struggling offense with a top defense. This is the time of year when the defense takes over dominance, so we'll see if Houston finds ways to wins like Denver did last year.

Then, just marry me, Lioness. You won't have to worry about regretting it, then . ... Plus, then my avatar name will make more sense.

Herbal tea and how life is interesting and doesn't turn out as expected.

And some seek comfort from God. I guess what I've learned is God's love is unconditional where everyone else, including mine fails and falls short. I always seem to learn this over and over again.
