  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Out of curiosity what are you doing to these people for them to say such things. If one persons say what you say they are saying I would blow it off but if many people are saying it I would find out why. Are you too competitive at work?

Oh no, this wasn't at work. (There's really nothing to compete OVER. =P ) And I did not mean to say that it is said to me specifically all of the time. Just that I see it happening between Christians all of the time. The old "No true Scotsman" problem.

We are called to exhort one another in Christ and we are always to do so from love. Exhortation is not condemnation.

Right, there is a difference. But I consider condemnation to be telling another person in so many words that they are currently worthy of going to hell, or even so much as implying that they are on their way to destruction. I just don't see how anyone has a right to do that, especially when no one here has even denied Jesus in any way (just in the condemner's mind). I wonder if people could just hear themselves sometimes when they give an excuse for their condemnation by calling it "lovingly warning".

I know you mean exhortation, Lioness, but some people don't seem to understand the difference between the two terms.

what I meant was what were you discussing that brought such comments about.

Oh, you know what it was? My saying that there's no reason to automatically say someone is being used by Satan for watching anime in general. Like, the person who claimed it was making a broad statement about the culture. And I said simply, there's both good and bad in every kind of media culture - books, TV, gaming, all. And she goes, those who would defend such things have the spirit of the world and are estranged from God (I don't think I have the exact order of words there correct, but it was definitely the gist of condemnation.) I don't even LIKE most anime I have seen, so I really can't say I am getting defensive simply because she attacked a hobby of my own that I am biased for; I was just sticking up for others in general who may be bigger fans of it when she started condemning it. God knows the heart, no one else, so I just don't think it is other humans' responsibility to judge in any way, form, or fashion a person's status as a believer in Christ over some stupid thing they like to watch. I really just shouldn't have gotten involved.

But again, while I was upset a bit in the moment last night for being personally insinuated to not be a true believer, it more just bothers me that this kind of thing happens between believers all of the time.

I didn't mean to make a shot at anyone, if that's what you mean, Reese. That was not intended. I was just explaining that we can't just assume.

I think Reese was speaking for me there, Sheena. Not what you said. I know you were trying to give well-meaning advice.

I think there is something to what both @leothelioness and @ReesePiece23 have said there, on one hand not caring whether other people think you are a real believer or not, and on the other hand taking other people's faith seriously in terms of working together as the body of Christ to set an example before unbelievers. Like most things, I am sure it is best that there is a balance between the two.

Numbers are on my mind. It's 96 degrees here; my fever is 102; and I now weigh 105 pounds. None of those numbers are satisfactory. On the upside, today was the first day of the autumn quarter, and I'm already in love with it.

Am I the only one who finds it odd that right now in the debate Hillary is wearing red and Trump is sporting a blue tie?

I actually never really saw any of the presidential debates in my past, so perhaps this is normal for the proceedings to be this sadly funny to watch. As I always wondered it should be, the icons of the donkey and elephant representing the opposing main parties should really be reversed, as Trump is literally being a braying {insert j-word as substitute for donkey here} right now while Hillary just keeps smiling and talking with a calm, annoying patronization like there is no elephant in the room to address.

Ugh, tell me about it. Trump is doing everything to make himself look bad. Hillary is definitely going to win this debate.

My only comment of the debate: "Admonish the audience for cheering"-- is there a better symbol for why Trump is succeeding? Stop telling people not to act human, stop telling them what to think, how to feel, how to act, what they are, who they are. Trump may not be winning points for niceness, but he's doing everything that got him where he is now, and it's a smart play- that may not be what we want to see- but to the angry masses who are tired of everyone playing nice and smiling through their teeth while they curse you-- he's their hero, and he's not letting them down so far.

Trump is such a goomba and Hillary just sucks. Its like trying to chose from the devil or the devil. Unfortunately a third party vote is a vote for Hillary so I will have to vote Trump but man it hurts.

How did a country of 318+ million people go so wrong?

Have to quote Serenity: "Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better."

The media has become so dishonest, and things like Political Correctness are being used as a battering ram to police what people think. People are tired of the thought-police and the dishonesty- tired of being told what to feel, what they're allowed to feel- tired of being labeled-- tired of being told not to believe their own eyes. The media and the powers that be's dishonesty put people in a position that Trump's message resonates with them. Trump is the monster that the media created.

Our government reflects the morals of our people and our citizens morals are at an all time low. Our reward for producing a drug culture.

I've really REALLY got to stop sounding so blunt.

I honestly don't mean to.

We are your Yin and Yang.

We are your two contrary forces of energy colliding into a fierce storm of revelations and epiphanies.

She is your angel, I am your slightly naughty side.

She is your fountain of wisdom, and I... Er... Need to sleep more.

Is this a good thing? Do you see the possibility of a relationship?

There is definitely possibility.

She is in another country. I would need to meet her in person and get to know her better, God willing

It's ok. A couple of people already corrected me in what you may have meant. I just wanted to hear it from you, so thanks!

Don't change just because you're blunt. I have the same problem when people ask for my unbiased opinions from work.

The good news is that the last two days, I've managed to walk around the block a few times. I felt unsteady while doing it but it was better than the days before those two.

It shouldn't be too long before my test results come back.
