  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My dh and I are in the process of ripping out and redoing all of our gardens (yes, this will be a long project!). Currently we have broccoli and carrots which will stay, as well as some mature lilly pillys. When it gets a little warmer (we're in winter here in the southern hemisphere) I'll plant some zinnias and other colourful flowers.

Just about everything else, including some beautiful but badly placed azaleas is being pulled.

I use a lot of herbs in my cooking, and because they're expensive I grow my own. This year I grew basil, rosemary, thyme, and sage. Normally I grow more, but I knew id be doing a lot of travel this summer. (I also have a flower garden too.)

My grandfather planted the rest of the garden, tomatoes, peas, potatoes, carrots, pumpkins, Japanese raddishes, and a few other things.

We also grow rasberries, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries.. but they're sort of wild plants, and we dont have to do much to take care of them.

Well that's a fun poll!

Onions, tomatoes, basil, carrots, squash, radishes, beans...

And outside of the vegetable garden, I have zinnias, black-eyed susans, sunflowers, chamomile (which never came up), lavendar (which never came up), butterfly-garden wildflowers, gardenia, rosemary, lantana, asparagus fern, petunias, verbena, Boston fern, palm, caladium, and a few other things I'm not thinking of.

You didn't have "deer" on the list so I had to put "other plants"...not that there's any of them left. I love deer but..........

oh well :o

This deer was extremely determined. It ate around all my deterents which, up until yesterday, worked like a charm. I'm telling myself right now the plants needed to be cut back anyway, that the deer did me a favor....hmmmmm....

Anyone have any good recipes for venison?

We have a very small garden this year. We were testing out organic gardening with the lasagna gardening method. It has worked great so we are going to plant a bigger garden next year. We have 4 big beef tomatoes, 4 cherry tomatoes, 2 red bell peppers, 2 green bell peppers, 1 sweet banana pepper and 1 habenero pepper plant.

In our garden we have:

Rhubarb, gooseberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, raspberries, autumn raspberries, strawberries and loganberries. We also have apple trees, a pear tree, and a plum tree. I will be growing three different kinds of tomatoes this year, plus climbing green beans and hopefully some peppers. I am trying mangetout peas for the first time. I may still be in time to put in some red onions, as they can be quite expensive to buy here. I also grow quite a few herbs and flowers for the house as well as a few houseplants.
