16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, "Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?"
17 So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
Matt 19:16-17 (NKJV)

Here, Jesus iss speaking to an Old Covenant man, using the Law to demonstrate to him how he was unable to fulfil all the requirements himself. Jesus is showing the man his need of a Saviour.

This is how we are saved through grace by faith:

John 6:29

28 Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires? 29 Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.

I believe both are true.

Without Jesus Christ in our hearts as Lord and Savior we can follow the commandments all we want and it won't mean a thing. We need Jesus.

But after we accept Jesus we are obligated to follow His commandments. I don't mean the law given to the Jews, I mean the ten commandments that Jesus Christ Himself reiterated and expanded on in the New Testament. He even expanded on divorce. Christ took some of His very precious time to make sure we understood what was pleasing to God and that we also understood that doing what is pleasing to God is important.

Once you accept Jesus and He resides in you following the ten commandments should become a no brainer, but the ten commandments alone cannot save.

I think when Jesus is truly your savior you want to fullfill the two commandments below... And If you achieve those two the ten commandments fall into place automatically.
Mark 12
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
Mathew 22
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Luke 10:25-28

25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?"
27 So he answered and said, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' "

28 And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live."

A pair of passages to add to this Maid, God Bless.

Jhn 6:37All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
Jhn 6:38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
Jhn 6:39And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
Jhn 6:40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Col 2:12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Col 2:13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Col 2:14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15[And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:
Col 2:17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

Thanks BustedFlat, that adds a whole new depth.

I really need to memorize these because I look for them and can't find them sometimes. Just awesome scripture straight up and to the point.

God bless.

Grace takes us all the way to the throne and nothing is needed from us. No work of our own can save us.

Works determine our reward in Heaven and have no impact on our salvation.

However, I love Him because of all He has done for me and continues to do for me, therefore, I want to obey Him and serve Him and do the work...run the race set before me with the endurance He gives me.

It is all about HIM.

Well that's pretty cool but how is the 10 commandments a symbol of Christ. He hardly mentioned them. He instead summerized them with the 2 great commandments. He set us free from sins, he didn't give us rules for the sins. Not that the 10 aren't great but I don't see how they are a symbol of Christ. Aaron's staff I believe. The pot of manna...okay.

Anyway I look forward to your reply.

In Him,
19 Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail.

In Him,
This covenant basically is God's nature, if we keep it we will be like Him. This is seen in the fourth commandnent: In the beginning God created the heaven the earth and everything there is in six days and on the seventh day God rested.
12
"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.
13 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
Rev 22:12-14 (NKJV) we must be like Him.......

According to “Raiders of the lost Ark”, there are a bunch of wispy ghost things that melt your face when you look at them …

So glad we don't live in the movies!!!

But the ark was VERY HOLY,
the Bibel tells us that men who touched it died. The Bibel doesn't realy give details about how the men died but they died.
That is also why the priest alone was allowed to talk to God in the tempels of the Old Testament. GOD IS HOLY.

29 Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.

I am so glad I do not have to obey every command of the Law. I discovered pretty quickly that I could not.
How about you Greg?

If an unsaved sinner cannot come to God by the Law, now do you teach that a Christian must now come this way? As a Christian I am no more able to satisfy the Law than I was before.
The difference now is that I am covered by the sacrifice of my Lord, and it is now HIS ability I rest in.

The blood of Jesus is my salvation. Nothing else. There IS no other way to gain or to maintain peace with God.

Lily brings to mind an interesting point about touching the Ark. I am reminded of the man who meant well and try to catch the Ark instead of letting it hit the ground. I think it was John Piper who said something about our arrogance in thinking that we are more holy than the dirt that could not sin. How about that to keep us humble? And God sent His Son to save us..not dirt...how's that for encouragment to consider the depth of His love, grace, and mercy?

Of course, the Ark wasn't even being carried properly when it fell.

The most famous box that ever existed was a golden box called The Ark Of The Covenant. Inside The Ark were three things. The Pot Of Mana, The Rod Of Aaron and The Ten commandments. The Pot Of Mana, Jesus said He was this living bread that fell from heaven, The Rod Of Aaron was a walking staff carried by Aaron for many years, this rod was alive as a tree, then was dead and used for a walking stick then it budded again. It symbolizes the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The third thing in This Ark Of God was the Ten Commandments, also symbolic of Christ. (1) Christ, (2) Christ, (3) Christ Remember this...the earthly Ark was only a copy of the Original Ark which is part of the THRONE OF GOD which is in Heaven.........Any Comments???? Any Questions????
Why so many question marks?

Rev 11:19 (NKJV)
if the original ark of the covenant is in heaven right now, why is the covenant not kept ?

If not go to Revelation 12:17 concerning requirements to be Born Again.

...you mean more then what Jesus said? :sorry:
Joh 3:16 said:
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
tulc(that seems fairly straight forward) :)
