  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just wanted to get some feedback from you all.
First my story...I have been breastfeeding my 16 mo old son since birth. He is a very active nurser (every 3-4 hour daily). I got my af around his first b-day. Last month is when it finally came at 28 day cycle before then it was irregular. We are TTC to no avail. I mean 3 nights a week.
Since everything seems wacky now, in the past week I have been very tired and every now and then I will go through short spells of nausea. I did take a preg. test a week ago "Neg" so I know its not that. My next af is due this Thursday (28 days).
Now my question....does any of this sound formilure after having a child? Is nausea and tiredness (may not be a word :) ) signs that your af is coming. There is a part of me that wants to get excited that I could be preg. but I keep telling myself "Shut up, the test was negitive."
We haven't used any birth control at all since my son was conceived. My husband is getting excited b/c on the 19th of this month is when we found out 2 years ago that my son was coming.

I know according to some of what I've read if you are still breastfeeding more than 5-6 times a day your body will not ovulate because another child is still dependant and it knows better than to have two young.

Have you tried ovulation testing? Tracking cycles and testing to find out if and when you are ovulating so you know when to have sex. Sex three times a week is well and good but if it's not when you are ovulating it won't do a lot of good.

Yes if your period is every 28 day you ovulate anywher from day 12-14 from the first day of your period so count day 1 of your period on so you would have sex on day 12 through day 14......now i am not to sure about the breast feeding. i would go out and by an ovulating kit or take your temputure and chart it....thats another way to tell when and if you are ovualting....hope that helped.....

Actually that's not always true, my Aunt got pregnant while still breastfeeding. So it's very possible but probably not real common though.

I agree though, you really need to chart things whether it be using an ovulation test, taking your temp, or checking you CM. Good luck.

It came but now I'm going through the same thing again. This time more nausea and cramping. My AF isn't due till the 19th of this month.

Has anyone heard of this....A friend of mine told me that the cramping could be ovulation cramping?
I have no idea whats going on but I never went through any of this before my son was born. Nausea , fatigue, or cramping. I must be getting old

If AF is not do until the 19th, then it is too early to test. Yes some tests say up to 5 days early, but people forget the UP TO part. I would wait until Thursday to know for sure.

Here is information about the breastfeeding form of birth control. As you can see it only works with attachment parenting, child constantly at mother's breast:

"Ecological Breastfeeding is a type of nursing the respects and follows the natural order, i.e., a mother nurses her baby on demand without relying on bottles, pacifiers, or fixed schedule. It is actually the world's oldest form of family planning because by providing her baby nourishment and nurturing according to the standards of Ecological Breastfeeding, a mother will almost always experience an extended time of infertility following childbirth. With today's common “cultural nursing” (usually a combination of nursing and supplementing with bottles), women usually experience an early return of fertility."

This is from the couple to couple league's site. That is where I first heard of it too. So "regular" breastfeeding, every few hours, is not a form of birth control only constant breastfeeding.

And I got pregnant on the pill. ;)

Any form of "birth control" can be overcome I believe.

The important thing to remember is "almost" There are many women who demand nurse without any form of suplementation that do get the period back quickly and regularly.

This only depends on each and every woman's body. For some women if there baby only nurses every 4 hours, it is enough to prevent their cycle form starting up again. Your body reacts to your child in more ways then them just latching on, crying can cause a reaction, if you put your child to the breast everytime they cry your body will learn this cycle. But if your baby only cries every 4 hors your body also will know this as a sign that that is when the letdown should be released. It is not an exact science, unless you know your body really well, and even then their are many variables.

No it is certainly not an exact science, I would personally never use it as a form of birth control but that doesn't mean other people don't. If someone wants to try it they have classes to help with this. For some people it is the only birth control they can feel morally confident with. I certainly thought it was an interesting idea. I was just providing some info.

Oh I fully believe it works for some. I know someone who it worked for for over 2 years, it is just that it doesn't work for everyone, and there are so many variables about women need to know about.

My daughter is 10 months old, my period is on a 28-30 day cycle. I am totally ill in the mornings and have tested several times, also I am on the pill. Though the fatigue has stoped since I lost a few pounds, the rest till apply. Yes I have gone to the doctor and they have run all kinds of tests, all come back normal. No I am not BF'ing my daughter, medical reasons prevent it, but that is a whole other convo. I am just saying that it could be nothing to worry about.

Have you changed your diet recently? I can pinpoint when my troubles all started and that was when I started on Weight Watchers.

WOW I wish I was like you. I wish I knew sooner. Well now you can thow into the list frequent urination and gassiness. Could this even be the usual signs of PMS?

No, I haven't changed my diet at all, I still pretty much eat the same. My mom said it could be stress......but from what? My life started getting stressful when all this started happening.
Please pray that AF doesn't come.

Unfortunetly yes. Many sings of PMS are the same as pregnancy, that is why women trying to get pregnant stress out like you are LOL Try to be patient it is only a few more days.

Well. I have an update.
I don't know if this means anything but.......yesturday I was getting these period like cramps but I wasn't due till today. Then this morning I woke up thinking "Hey, Tonight I will know if Im pregnant or not" Then to my horror I got it in the morning. What was weird is that when I get it it comes full force cramps and all (no mercy) and plus the soreness in my breast goes away magicly :)
What I started noticing is that its been very, very light. Very pinkish. The other thing is that the soreness is still there.
I am so excited I keep running into the bathroom checking if I'm still spotting.
What do you think? Could it be what I'm thinking it is? How soon can I test? Or should I?

Well.... it sounds like you're having a period, but I'll ALWAYS vote for testing. That's what I would do anyway, better to know than wonder ;)
