I have an unlucky streak of getting most of my good threads closed. So let's try this again except this time we will follow forum rules:

It is no surprise that the vast majority of the world believes differently than you do.

Why is this? Why are so many people being deceived by other religions if they clearly aren't true? Are billions of people just morons who are suppressing the truth? If the one true God is so clearly and plainly visible, why are people following other ones? Some people are dedicating their entire lives to other religions and some even blowing themselves up in the name of religion.

If a bunch of other man-made religions have gained the same amount of popularity and followers as Christianity, then I think this says something about what man is capable of. Man is capable of deception at an enormous scale. Man can deceive billions of people into thinking any god exists. Therefore, why should I let what man says be the foundation for my belief in God?

2 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV)
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Luke 22:31 (NIV)
Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.

John 10:4 (NIV)
When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.

The purpose of planet earth is to separate God's sheep from the wolves and goats. To simply put, earth is a place where God's sheep will hear God's voice and follow Him. It is the same place where those who are not God's sheep will be filtered out.

You are right, you shouldn't let man say be your foundation. You should ask Jesus yourself and let that be your foundation. That is why Jesus is different from other religions, you can have a personal relationship with him. You can ask him things and he will answer, sometimes thru dreams or sometimes thru people. Go to the Testimonies section of this site, they are people who looked for Jesus and he responded by getting them out of difficult situation. A situation that took a miracle, Jesus works miracles in people's lives still that's why we believe. Even if you don't believe in religion you are still placing your faith in what men says whether is be science books or philosophers etc. so If you don't believe in God than what man says is your foundation for all your beliefs.

Dear alexiscurious. Jesus told some of His disciples: " what is it to you what
John thinks, you follow your own thinking." What does Jesus want from us?
Jesus told us: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds. The second is like it: Love our neighbour as we love ourselves." Then in verse 4: Jesus tells us: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." What could be more important to God or Jesus? What to do now? In Matthew 7: 7-10:
we are told: " ask and you shall receive." We ask God for Love and Joy, then we thank God and share all love and Joy with our neighbour. Who is our neighbour? all we know and all we meet, friends and not friends. We keep asking for Love and Joy, then thank God and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour. God will see our loving efforts, and God will approve and bless us.
The Bible tells us: " Repent and be Born Again," give up all our selfish wishes and wants, and start loving and caring. God is Love, and God wants loving sons and daughters. We might stumble and forget at times, but then we ask God to forgive us, and carryon Loving and Caring.
Love is a Christian`s strong weapon, love will overcome all anger and wrong behaviour, love is also very catching. The people we meet will treat us the same way as we treat people, and the Holy Spirit will help and guide us, and Jesus our Saviour will lead us all the way: JESUS IS THE WAY. Life will become enjoyable and we will become sign-posts to God. Instead of asking:
what`s going on here ? let us join the Happy Throng, and become as God wants us to be. I say this with love, alexiscurious. Greetings from Emmy,
your sister in Christ.

It is no surprise that the vast majority of the world believes differently than you do.
The vast majority of the world believes all sorts of things. It isn't like the world outside of Christianity is unified in its beliefs. Far, far from it.

The Bible is pretty clear about its answer to your questions:

Ephesians 2:1-3 (NKJV)
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4 (NKJV)
3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,
4whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

As the apostle Paul explains above, people are induced to believe the wrong things because the "god of this world," the "prince of the power of the air," the devil, has blinded them to the truth and has deceived them into living according to his lies. But, this isn't the only reason why so many people believe the wrong thing. Paul also points out that those who have not had a second spiritual birth are "dead in trespasses and sins." They are without the spiritual capacity, given only by God's Holy Spirit, to understand God's truth.

1 Corinthians 2:12-14 (NKJV)
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Finally, humans have a natural inclination away from God. Human pride and selfishness provoke us to reject God's claim upon us. We want to live our own way, not God's. We don't want to be told what we are doing is wrong. We don't want to have to answer to our Maker. We want to gratify ourselves and God gets in the way. Jesus explains:

John 3:19-20 (NKJV)
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

"Those who practice evil" describes every person on the planet. As Paul points out,

Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Thus, as beings who practice evil, all humans resist God's reproof of their evil deeds. And in an attempt to do so, humans erect counterfeit or surrogate gods and systems of belief that better suit them.

Paul further notes that not only do we naturally avoid God's correction but we just don't have it in us as carnal people "dead in trespasses and sins" to live in a godly way. A carnal person, one who is living according to the dictates of their fleshly needs and desires rather than under the direction of God's Spirit, is totally incapable of living in a manner pleasing to God.

Romans 8:7-8 (NKJV)
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

With all of these factors in play opposing the Gospel, it really is a miracle when a person comes to saving faith in Christ. It has to be an act of God that brings anyone to salvation. And this is why, I think, Jesus said more people would be lost than saved.

Matthew 7:14 (NKJV)
14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

As I pointed out above, it isn't just that man deceives himself. Humans have a great deal of help from the demonic in their self-deception. You must in the end be convinced for yourself that the Bible is the divine text it claims to be. There is good reason to believe it is, but it will not do to believe merely because someone else does. You must make the effort to study the Bible for yourself and come to your own conclusions. And you must have a meeting with God. If your desire is truly to know God, then He will move heaven and earth to give you that knowledge. But He is not deceived by the things we use to deceive others - and ourselves. He knows what you truly desire and He will act accordingly.

Selah.

Every single individual will have beliefs that are different from all the others. I assume you accept that, so can you define specifically the stereotype you are positing here? Otherwise you can not achieve cohesive discussion, because everyone straight away believes they know what you are asking. But this is not necessarily correct, and all you will get is whatever assumptions they have made. But then, you only need to do this if you are trying to get an answer, and I am neutral on my belief about that wrt you, at this time. Your track record is poor, but your responses (the few) have balanced my doubt. Over to you, I would enjoy a useful, productive discussion with you.

Because most men deceive, does it follow that all men deceive? Your conclusion would be reasonable, if this were true. But it's fallacious, so your conclusion is not reasonable.

Christianity rests on one Man not deceiving. (Remember all that truth and light stuff he claimed?)

The Bible describes sinful man's ability to see the things of God as a man looking through a darkened glass, obscuring his view. Thus, he sees a little truth though the glass, but because the glass is darkened, it obscures much of his ability to discern the truth he sees.

So it is with sin.

Unless God regenerates a man and illuminates the truth to him and in him, how can we expect him to know what the truth is?

We should not depend on what man is saying at all! If one does not value the Bible as God's immutable Word, then he is left to his own religious ideas ---so be it!

That also applies to the various so-called Christian ideas ---true to Scripture or only the reasoning of men? I not only value the Bible as God's only testimony to let man know about Himself, but to give man all that God wants him to know about God and His ways, salvation hope, and purposes.

My own experience in coming to God honestly and sincerely, is that He made His Word real and applicable to me, for my eternal salvation and personal relationship with Him forever. So, I am forever happy with God and satisfied I am going to meet Him and dwell with Him one day.

I feel as if all the answers posted here are just cleverly evading the question.
I'm sorry my post came out as evading the question; it was meant to point out the incorrect reasoning in your opening post. When questions are based on fallacy, there's no point in giving an answer. In fact, to answer the question implies my acceptance of its premises.

This could, in part, explain why the answers given are unsatisfactory to you. I suggest you give it some serious thought...

But whatever let's just blame the devil and man's sinful inability to discern truth.

I don't think I evaded your questions at all. I answered them very directly and comprehensively. Are you sure you aren't just irritated that the answers are what they are? You are asking Christians what they believe, so you are going to get - hopefully - biblical reasons for those beliefs, which I laid out for you in my last post. If you find the biblical answers too pat, well, that's unfortunate, but we can't alter what the Bible says just because it annoys you.

If most men deceive, than I have a just reason for being wary of what man says. My conclusion seems very reasonable.

The only thing I'm irritated at is how easy it is for man to convince billions that any god exists simply with a book that tells some supernatural stories. This makes me very wary of what man has to say.

It's also funny how Mormons can add whatever they want to the Bible and no one notices. They have somehow gained millions of followers. Who knows what other fake stories man has added to the Bible the last two thousand years. I don't want man's writings to be my foundation for my belief in God. Sorry.

Yes you have reason to be wary, but not to conclude all men deceive. Because most rocks sink in water, does not mean all rocks sink. So just because most men deceive, does not lead to a Specific Man deceiving. One fundamental claim of Christianity is "that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." So you need to show how Jesus deceived.

Hope this helps.

No. They apparently ARE true. That is why.
Christianity is apparently NOT true.
