  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1 Peter 3:3, 4

3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward; arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel;

4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

1 Peter 3 helps us understand what Paul is saying – Peter says the adornment should not merely be external. It’s not wrong to wear gold, pearls, fine clothing or to braid the hair. What is wrong is when the emphasis on the external leads to the neglect of the heart.

you have to take note of the period of time it was. Before the flapper of the twenties was introduced, showing your ankles was very immodest. Its different times, different place. It's basically just saying that girls shouldn't flaunt themselves like there a product. They should have some modesty which is something we dont have much of nowadays.

"Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness." 1 Timothy 2:9-10

this clearly sounds like pauls opinion . and it clearly sounds like braided hair is immodest

not at all. The bible is an ancient book. Times were different that long ago. They had gladiator wars and stuff like that, women wore all black to mourn and just small things like that im saying we dont have to take it so literally but we need to be moral in the sense that what you where or how you act will not make one lust or a brother (or sister in christ) stumble. Dress accordingly. That doesnt mean you cant have braids in your hair it just means dont flaunt yourself. If your braided hair makes one of your christian friend lust, dont braid your hair anymore for the sake of him. (ill see if i can find a verse that covers this) but it does apply to todays times, just not nearly as literally. We dont have slaves and such no even though the bible talks about how to take care of your slaves. We think having a slave is inhuman. Times change but we have to be sure to make our beliefs as pure as possible even though or morality is changing as the years pass. Like i said a while back showing your ankles was immodest now you can where bikinis and its not immodest. Basically, dress so that your friend wont lust because of you and dont flaunt your riches. Respect that fact that some others may not be as fortunate as you when it comes to money or beauty but just be moral about it. (im sorry if i didnt make anything clear, its late and im about to go to bed i might have said something wrong. correct me if i left something open ended)
