Innocence is beautiful. It's the same as moral purity, a very desirable quality.

What is 'moral purity'? I don't ask this to be difficult; I just would like to see it fleshed out a bit more. We know what a 'morally good person' is: it's the person that makes the morally good choice. I can't see how this fits kids, though, so I find it difficult to reduce 'moral purity' to 'morally good.' Kids frequently act immorally (or perhaps amorally), so this formulation just isn't plausible. I'd be interested to see this concept expanded, though.

As would I. I'm not sure what "moral purity" means, either. In my experience, kids frequently act in ways that we would call immoral - part of raising children is imparting that morality to them. So what's "moral purity"?

Not to put too fine a point on it, but kids have always reminded me of Frankenstein's monster - moral monsters.

It always suprises me when people spout off about the "innocence of children".

I find them to usually be vicious little animals. Some of them aren't, but I chalk that up more to the parent's work with them, rather than some innate goodness.

I'm also suspicious of the 'innocence of children' stuff cuz I suspect that, with a little research, one could make a decent case that it can be traced to Romantic ideology (Shelley's 'Frankenstein' being a good example), in which people were obsessed with the notion of 'Innocence Lost' (Milton reference fully intentional).

Can you explain why? What about them in particular do you "despise"? Do you despise the practices themselves, or those who practice them? Do you have a particular reason why you consider these moral issues, or why your morality regarding them should extend any further then the choices you personally make regarding your practice of sex and/or your viewing of porn?
