why? cuz its just a well developed anime

not that i like anime, my friend is always suggesting it to me and so i finally watched it and it was decent

i would reccommend watching these following movies:

Akira (one of the premiere anime of the the anime invasion (america))

Ghost in the Shell -----it deals with some interesting thought on the way man would progess with technology.

Jin Roh ------ an interesting and refreshing retelling of red riding hood in a militaristic Japan, plus the music is just too good.

Escaflowne <---- cause the movie is just plain cool

Spirited Away <------- cause Hayao Miyazaki is a genius

Princess Mononoke <------- cause Hayao Miyazaki is a genius

My Neighbor Totoro <------- cause Hayao Miyazaki is a genius . . .and totoros are cool

Kiki's Delivery Service <------- cause Hayao Miyazaki is a genius

Castle in the Sky (Laputa) <------- cause Hayao Miyazaki is a genius and the character designs for robots in the film are awesome.

Boogiepop Phantom- the show rocks- of course I am a brand new fan... I haven't seen that much. (Read "I need to know what to look for")

Okay, let's see here...I'll give ya a list of things that you may enjoy along with a brief little synopsis.


Serial Experiments Lain - Probably my favorite anime. Some think it's brilliant (like myself), and others find it to be a bit bland. It's a great thought provoking series, set with a lot of technological ideas involving the internet, and some interesting questions about what makes someone really exist.

Boogiepop - Someone else mentioned this above. A fairly dark series with very good cinematography. The plot will keep your mind wondering, but overall it's not as complex as the likes of Lain.

Perfect Blue - One of the best suspense/thriller anime movies out there. Great plot that really keeps you wondering the whole time. However, this one is a bit on the graphic side, so if you're easily offended by sexual content it may not be for you.

Berserk - This is a very good action series, with a surprising amount of character development and a really twisted and erie plot. Lots of blood and violent fight scenes, and the end is pretty disturbing, so once again not for the squeemish (sp?).

Escaflowne - A very good mix of fantasy, action, and romance. I really can't say enough about this title...It has a great plot, wonderful character development, and an awsome soundtrack.

Magic Knight Rayearth - A happy and lighthearted fantasy series, but also serious. It's hard to say why this anime should be seen...nothing about it is extraordinary, but as a complete package well...it just makes you feel good inside hehe.

Kimagure Orange Road - Fairly serious romantic series, but it does have it's fun moments. I've not seen the TV series, but the OVA is very good, especially augmented by the KOR Movie.

Grave of the Fireflies - Extremely touching and well done movie set in WWII times. It's based around the lives of two children, and you feel very close to them by the end of the movie.

Oh My Goddess - 5 Episode OVA and a Movie. I love this series...it's a great mix of romance and comedy, fairly serious, you really care about the relationship of the two involved...As a bonus, the slapstick comedy is not nearly as prevelent as series like Love Hina.


Well...this is all I can think of at the current time, that you may like. Of course you can always find reviews and screenshots of anything before you buy it to get a better idea.

Definitely the Fooly Cooly (aka Furi Kuri) series. Though they are only six episodes the shear comedy and multitude depictions of japanese are well worth it.

Here are some I recommend:

Animation Runner Kuromi: A cute and fun anime about people making an anime. A good dose of humor and charm too.

Record of Lodoss War OVA series: A very well done RPGish anime in a Medievil fantasy setting.

Princess Nine: A fun anime about about an all girls baseball team that competes against all guys teams. Great character interaction and lovable characters.

Tenchi Muyo the Movie: Tenchi Muyo in Love: An great movie with a misleading title. It's actually a continuation of the Tenchi Universe timeline. A great sci-fi movie with some time travel, some humor, and a good plot. Tenchi goes back in time becuase of a change in that past that affects his life.

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro: An excellent film with both writing and direction from Hayao Miyazaki. Yes, the same Miyazaki that did Kiki's Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke. Castle of Cagliostro is about a thief who tries to get to the bottom of a counterfeit mystery and winds up in the middle of a much bigger plot (can't say what or I'll reveal spoilers). I highly recommend seeing this movie in subtitles becuase the English dub adds a gratitous amount of cursing.

May as well add my opinion...

I like Inu Yasha. ... I'm not sure that Oh My Goddess is something I'd go for, from what I've seen - it's just a little bit too... *sweet* for my tastes I suppose. From what I haven't seen, I might say that Escaflowne is probably one of the best to go for.

none of you have mentioned Cowboy Bebop. you should all be ashamed.

others include: Noir, Full Metal Panic, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Evangelion and some others that are not very christian, but still very good, so I won't mention them here

Ghost in the Shell....ugh....it was technically masterful but the characters and dialogue were so dry.

Yes, what a disgrace...No mention of Bebop , I frown. Oh, and I would also want to recommend Trigun peoples!

Well, Trigun and Bebop are very mainstream. While I liked them both, there are other series that I would recommend more.

Here are some others I recommend:

Iria: A very nice sci-fi anime about a young bounty hunter going up against a monster out to destroy the world (there is more to the plot, but I don't want to give too much away). Great characters and action.

Ah My Goddess the movie: A very well done movie about a Goddess named Belldandy who lives with a guy named Keiichi. Belldandy meets her old mentor who causes some major problems. A nice dramatic movie with some humor.

Ruin Explorers: A fun four episode OVA series with some RPGish fantasy elements, great characters, and lots of humor. Ihrie and her friend Fam are two treasure hunters looking for the "ultimate power". They meet new friends and enimes and learn valuable lessons along the way.

If you stray from violence then I guess that Vampire Hunter D is out of the question...

I would reccomend any of Hayao Miyazaki's movies, especially Princess Mononoke (though that one is rather violent, but it's not really done in a gratuitous matter... In wars people get hurt.)
