Suppose you had the funds (unlimited) the resources and the skills to create a computer game from scratch what would your ultimate game be and why?
Come up with an outline of the aim of the game, the sort of characters involved and the features of your game
Just day dreaming!
Hmm? What do you need unlimited funds for? Get yourself some development skills!

You only throw money at something if you can't do it yourself, but then throwing money at something doesn't guarantee success. I mean some stuff will cost, especially if you license any engines or middleware, but there are many choices ranging from free to big bucks.
Anyway, what type? classic style mmorpg. Theme is a Christian theme with heavy questing. Many quests are based on and inspired by scripture. Think of Pilgrim's Progress and you will be somewhat close, but it's a bit different. Should be finished sometime 2009 ready for a commercial release. About 5 developers for the team, mostly quest writers since it launches with 500+ quests. You can track progress by finding my weblog link in MyChristianForums.com link in the html section as well as the contact section there with a direct working link to the weblog. I don't put out a lot of info there, but it's something for now. I'm just too busy to make a game site still.
Other than that, just about to hit version 1.0 on a much smaller mmorpg (about 3 days away). It's a world where you live the life of a forest animal. No info out on that right now, we are just doing private testing on 1.0 but by the time 2.0 is finished it may go public ...maybe. It's more of a hobby game but mainly for basic system testing. It's actually one of two test games, the second will be live later this year which will be more than simple play as this first one is and that one is meant for public play.
There are schools you can go to, to learn how to develop. I'm a multimedia major at my local college, it has helped a bit. Also have taken some computer science in years past, but I don't program much at all, I leave most of that to someone else and do light programming myself. I'm more into modelling, texture art, animation, scripting, sound engineering , networking, level design and of course game design.
Lots of intro books at Barns and Noble on game design and programming for beginners. Better than just dreaming that large sums of cash will just one day roll in so you can get started. Many game projects start out with just a couple people, a blank text file and an empty bank account.
It’s kinda funny too, I made a thread like this last year, but offered to turn someone’s game idea into an actual working game (a mini-mmog for the second public test game), even giving them credit (among other things), as long as it wasn't high-fantasy theme with magic and elves, but there were no takers here. Hehe just a complaint by someone saying they refused to give there ideas away… which are still probably no more than ideas today nor will ever be anything more (ideas are a dime a dozen actually). Not that I’m short on ideas or anything hah, but I already have my primary game theme becoming a reality.
