One of the most important things I've been learning over the last two months is this concept of finding out what it is that I truly want in life.

It sounds strange comming from a Christian who's devoted his entire life to God's direction, but it's something I'm just learning now is is fundamentally important to discerning God's will!

When you've given up your dreams, your desires, your whole life to God, and trust Him for it - he will give back to you His desires, His dreams, His visions, His plans and purposes, and the key to finding them out is really simple - as simple as finding out what it is "you really want to do!" In short, the question is better phrased: "if money were no object, and time were no limitation or concern, and circumstance was never an impossibility; what would you want to do? If you could go anywhere, do anything, and money was not a problem, - what would you desire to do?"

And often times, people aren't ready to have that question asked of them because they have not yet given their entire lives to God, so therefore they answer quite secularly (like, never work, travel the world, own a lot of things, etc.). But in short, the nature of the desires that God gives us, is for building His Kingdom. So what would your desire be? What is it that we desire that God could use to build up his kingdom?

And to tie that in, I've found out something else VERY important too. We young, ambitious singles have this tenacious desire to seek God out for our future mate, in everything we do. LOL. So many times, honest Christians will repeat that back as their answer: "I want to get married," or "Be a wife, a helpmate..." It's true. When we're on the "seeking path" we look and wonder, and often times get ourselves into emotional trouble if we take a particular relationship beyond what God intended it to be. This is why I've thought about adding this strategic dimension into the question in which I myself am just now beginning to answer:

"If time, money, and circumstance were no limitation nor object, and if you could go anywhere and do anything in the world, and if God guaranteed you would met your future mate anyways - no matter what you find yourself doing, what would you do?"

I ask this of you. What would you do?

Well i know exactly what i would do. (besides travelling the world) I would move to the country and open up a camp. this would not be an ordianry camp though. It would be a chruch history camp. Sounds interesting eh? Hear me out though. i would have weeks like Early Christian week. duing this week the people that come to the camp would have to dress and live (As much as possible) like they did then. No lions or anything like that though. but they would worship like they did and learn all about the time period through seminars. so the whole week would be like they lieved back then. maybe i could have people that walk around like they are important figures like Ignatius or something.

i could also have other time perods like the reformation, the early and late middle ages and so on.

i coudl also have weeks that concentrate on certain denominations. like I could have Eastern Orthodox week. I would bring in experts on them an d it would go much like the historical period weeks except they would worship like a certain denomination or groups of denominations do.

Of course there will be other things to do because it would be in a perfect mountain valley with a lake and all that kind of stuff. so it would have some usual camp stuff but it would be about the stuff above.

and i will have this camp one day because i think that God wants me to do this. But before that i am going to be a professor at a christian college or seminary. i want to do that first. but of course i really want to travel especially in Italy, Greece and turkey.

Very thought provoking and heart searching post, Josephus. There are an unlimited number of things I would like to do in the name of God. I love God, and I love to fish. So, I would like to set up Christian fish camps all over the world, in the great rivers, in the mountains, just everywhere. There would be Bible studies, then some fishing, prayer time, then some more fishing, devotionals, more fishing, worship....well, you get the picture. ;)

I must not be there yet, because I still want some things that are pretty much off limits. So I still struggle with yielding myself to God in those areas. I know that He wants us to serve Him full time with taking this gospel to the whole world, to prepare the way for Jesus to return. I am not really doing that full time though, it is still sort of part time for me. There are still some things I want from this old world, and we have to get out and work for them.

Most of what we do is to allow God to do a work in us to prepare us. Like with my church, they go out on the mission frield three weeks a year, and it is getting more and more to where we spend the rest of the time, preparing for that. With God's help, we can always accomplish so much more than we could accomplish apart from Him, on our own.

Nice post Josephus, I wish there were more like that on here. Thanks, JohnR7

I have just gone through a lot of cleaning out my field of some more weeds and one of them was my desire for worldly thing, whether it be for Gods purpose or not.
I have seen in my desires that the world is not enough to fulfill this desire - one thing just leads to another and it just does not stop. So even as I myself yeilded my all to Jesus, I have to keep check on my thoughts and desires to keep me from thinking on these types of things - which is idolatry - and keeping my attitude from becoming Laodician - I know for as long as I keep these thoughs at bay then I can remain open to do what Jesus would have me to be thinking and doing. So my advice is to not even think like this at all!

>>one thing just leads to another and it just does not stop.

That sounds a lot like painting. You start off with one door or window that is starting to chip and peal and in really bad shape, even where there will be some real damage if you do not get in there to fix it. When you finish with that all of a sudden other areas just do not look as good anymore by comparison. So before you know it, you want to get a fresh new coat of paint on everything.

I did that on the front of my house. I was just going to do a small area, but now it is starting to look like I will end up painting the whole front of the house. Because once you get started, it is hard to stop. You want to keep going 'tell everything is fresh and new looking. I have patched and repaired and spot painted for about 5 years now, but sooner or later you have to renew it all.
