You do understand that the difference between members within a species as young as humans is pretty small, right? Plants go through this testing not only to determine specific plants, but also to determine if they are an accidental hybrid, which can have an impact for many generations after the first unnatural pairing as a result of human interference putting those plants too close while they were flowering.
