Would would happen if every loyal SDA were to buy some books, such as 'The Desire of Ages'....'Great Controversy'....'Patriarchs and Prophets', ect...ect...
AND then, place them in a library, near where you live ?

Does that sound like a good idea , or not ?

What do I think would happen?

Well, I myself am a progressive Adventist. I studied at Walla Walla College with Alden Thompson among others. Because I am influenced by his views on Inspiration and EGW + Bible... I think that placing the Adventist "Classics" in many public places would be a bad idea.

In my opinion, it would be better for a lost soul to find Christ FIRST than to be confused and even turned off by some of EGW's more extreme, albeit contemporary, positions.

hello Silver surfer and neapoi. The public library in my community already has Desire of the Ages, The Great Controversy and Patriarchs and Prophets. I think that Steps to Christ would be a good addition.

I realize that there are probably many public libraries that do not have any of EGW's work. And that seems strange to me considering the amount of books she authored.

In my opinion the SDA church has unintenionally damaged her reputation more than they have promoted it. One of the points of the SDA doctrine is to acknowedge Ellen White as being a prophetess, and I don't believe that she ever intended for that.

The public perception is that the SDA church places her work above the Scriptures, which of course isn't true, but on the surface it may appear that way to someone who isn't familiar with her work..

Ellen White isn't a great guide for new SDA's for following Christ in my opinion. The Bible is all we need to understand the meaning of faith.

Don't forget to include Steps to Christ. One of the best books she ever wrote.

Ellen White, a messenger of God, thus her messages are important as well. She sheds more light on the scriptures.

I don't think it would be a good idea, though many people have come to Christ by reading EGW. One of the reasons people think we place EGW above the Bible is because we shove her books in public places and stuff.

The spirit of Prophecy is a gift from God to shed light onto the greater light. Certain writings like Steps to Christ , The Great controversy, Christs object lessons,etc. Draw the mind to the love and character of Jesus. Since most christians and non christians do not read the bible but other books about religious things it would be good to share these writings with them. I am currently studying the original EGW writings and can find nothing that goes against the scriptures. Ellen White did say our literature should be spread like the leaves of autumn.

Indeed, but a better one would be to give them away! Go to a public place, such as a mall and give them away. People can solicit flyers at malls, well its the same thing. The books solicit an invitation to the wedding supper with the Lord in his Holy City. That sounds like an awesome party! Ofcourse the trick is getting the Bible to do the same. This SDA church I'm currently checking out is the first I've seen to give away Bibles at their seminars. The Bible is the main theme. All doctrine must be sound with the Bible. I havn't read much of EGW's work, however I have read books such as "The Ultimate Rip-Off II" and "The Power and the Glory" by SDA members. What they say is Biblically sound. I some of the allegations against EGW and it seems farfetched, but behold, I see a Church that follows the Bible and not man made doctrine such as liturgy. I must say regardless of whether EGW was a prophet or not, the SDA Church is definately moving in the right direction. Its a series of sermons regarding proof that we are in the last days and what we should do about it. Shawn is a very impressive presenter and you may enjoy alot of the news he has to tell you.
