My first pet was an old dog who had been born long before me and died when I was about eight.

Mother called her Blackie because she was so black. After that we had two other dogs who were black and my mom called both of them Blackie. Now we have a neighborhood cat who is also called....you guessed it. ;)

My parents got a German Shepherd a little while before I was born, he was still very little when I was born, there are pictures of him sitting beside me in a baby seat, his name was Major. I just barely remember him because he got hit when I was about 5, it's not smart to chase two big dump trucks. We also had a bunch of cats but the one I remember was Cooner.

I just wanted to say how much this thread did for me. My mother loved those horses that I mentioned above, but unfortunately her life was cut short and she had very little time with us here on Earth. She went home to God when I was just a child, but those memories of those horses and how much she loved them are still vivid, although I had not thought of them for years. After posting, I told my own daughters more about her and her horses and those memories and shed some tears of laughter at some of the more poignant ones.

Thank you so much for this thread, it started a very special conversation :)

Thanks to you 3girls2dogs for sharing this touching and cherished memory with us.

It amazes me that the smallest thing...like this idea  just came that it would be fun to exchange about our first pets. Now your feedback is such a blessing as you share how this touched you...God is good! :prayer:

Thanking Jesus,

birdfriend:wave:

My first pet was named Andre. He was a white poodle. Didn't get to keep him for long because he bit me. He was mean because his owner didn't have him around kids or many people. He would hide in the weirdest places like the bathroom and all of a sudden I would hear him growling.

My first pet was a black and white cat called Sooty(though he should have been called Sylvester because he got hold of my second pet canary, Tweety and...well.. :()

I was five and I loved that cat, even though he as a rotter at times.

My first pet was a HUGE black Lab named Bart. He was a very good protector and would let my brother and I do practically anything to him. If he got tired he'd just up and move under the fig tree. I have some wonderful memories of that dog.

We had a cat named Impy.. or rather my mother had a cat named Impy.. Impy wasn't all that fond of us girls, but I do recall it being alleged she was the "family pet" :D
Impy had seniority, mom had her before she had us, didn't matter how many ways that cat scratched us up... our cries of "Impy scratched me" bought us this loving response "Leave that poor cat alone" LOL!

Now I have an "impy" DeeDee is my cat, when the kids complain about DeeDee I pick up my little old cat and soothe her.. even if she did land a good one on one of the kids :p

First pet was a black and tan dachsund named Snickelfritz. Craziest name I have ever heard. That was 42 years ago and I still remember playing with that dog!

Over 50 years ago we had a tan dachsund my mother named Herr Dochel der Gross. I thought that was the craziest name I have ever heard. ;)
