What version of the Bible do you read and why?

I read the New King James Version because when I was first introduced to it I was under the impression that they just changed the ye and thy to you and your but it goes beyond that, that are changing actual meanings and words.

Look here at Ephesians 6:12

First the King James Version.......
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Now the New King James Version.......
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Is "heavenly places" and "high places" the same thing? Is "darkness of this world" and "darkness of this age" the same thing. Am I fighting the world or a space in time?

What do you read and why?

I use a 1984 NIV/KJV parallel Bible. I acquired an ESV for my phone, that's what my church uses now.

I use the NRSV because it's supposed to be the most accurate translation to the earliest and best manuscripts we have available, and it's the most commonly used and quoted among the top academic Biblical scholars. People get up in arms about it being too gender-neutral, but that's only where the grammar and/or context supports it and doesn't change anything about the passage.

KJV because I trust that one.

As you pointed out even the NKJV is different and has differing meanings that just dont jibe with all the other scripture.

The yes and thous and old fashioned language dont bother me. KJV is accurate and a true word for word translation.

NIV because it's easier to understand. KJV is fine if you are proficient in Early Modern English.

I also have the New World Translation Bible which is used by Jehovah's Witnesses but have not read it yet. I plan to read it along with the Quran and the Book of Mormon sometime in the future.

Is it really as outrageous as people say it is?

Not sure, but what I posted is true. There was no other way of seeing the verse either. Was enough for me to say "no thanks" back when I was a seeker.

Mormons themselves believe the craziest things anyway. They believe Jesus is the God of the OT, but that "The Father" isn't - God the Father is a whole separate being in their religion. I don't know if that comes from the book of Mormon itself or what, but I think it might come from their extra "sacred texts" like the Pearl of Great Price and their other ones they have. They also believe Jesus is Satan's brother.

I prefer to read English/Aramaic Peshitta (For the Gospels) - because it has corrected translations of words and also it excludes the verses which were later added.

and for the 'old' testament, the Jewish Koren Tanakh, because it is understanding passed through Jewish generations.

I like the KJV because the Strongs concordance and dictionary are coded to it, makes it easy to look up specific words on Blue Letter Bible. I like the New King James because it's better worded and an excellent read. The King James is based on Texus Recepticus like the Geneva Bible before it and it's an excellent manuscript. Most, if not all, of the modern translations are based on Wescott Hortt which I don't like because it edits our different thing because of questionable text variation. The translations are kind of blah, even the Authorized Version which is more correct then most but it somehow takes the edge off of the translation. Perhaps just a preference but I kind of like the old KJV, 1679 version if memory serves, I'm not much into modern scholarship, I feel like it renders the text too ambiguise.

I believe I've read NIV first, then KJV, then NLT. I currently read all three at the same time. Which do I prefer? All three? Lol. I used to hate NLT to be honest. I felt like it strayed from the context of His Word. But I've found that it helped give me a ..'fuller'(?) picture/understanding of what was being said. But anyway, I love all 3 versions. ♥

I think with the KJV the 1611 one is the one to go for. Not like the original edition itself but that printing has stood the test of time. Its like vintage wine or something, gets better with age.

I'm still torn between being a KJV onlyist or not. Not that I don't think you can't gain from the other editions or benefit spiritually, but I can't seem to leave the KJV. I thought recently that I was going to, mostly because of the old english words like charity and such, but really, it doesn't hinder me much and seems to flow so well.

Very well might stay KJV only with me. Seems to be the case.

I quite like the 1901 ASV but decent copies of it are like hens teeth.
