What Version Of The Bible Do You Prefer?

I use NIV...but I like the idea of finding some other versions and reading them, just to compare.

I do not "prefer" or "use" any, but I do believe and obey one to be the very words of the living God- The Holy Bible, Authorized King James Version.

Um. . .I believe and obey the Bible too, although I read the NIV, which is also "the words of the Living God," as is any legitimate version of the Bible.

I don't want to get a KJVO debate started here. Just saying that one does not have to be KJVO to honor God and His Word.

Why do you limit yourself to one translation?

I know a lot of people use the NIV, and this might be a bit toe-steppingish, but I don't think it's as accurate as some other translations

I think the most accurate is the NAS, but the KJV/NKJ are good too.... I use NAS/NKJ

i asked my pastor whether KJV is more accurate than NIV, and he laughed me off! then he explained how as time moves on, people come to a better understanding of ancient languages, and are able to translate them more accurately than before.

The Revised Standard Version, but not the New Revised Standard Version as that version has femininst language in it.

I read the NIV spiritually, to really dig deep into the bible, and allow God to speak to me through it. So thats the most read.

I also use the NASV when quoting scripture, because it is probably the most accurate translation.

On top of that I use a NASV concordance for the original Greek and Hebrew words. But this is when I am studying the bible in a 'mental' sense.

I have a NASB, an NIV an Amplified, an RSV, a Good News, a Living Bible, etc...

But my favourite at the moment has to be my Spirit Filled Life Bible - NKJV.

I don't just swallow all the commentary, I filter it through God first, and decide whether I agree with their interpretation. I have only found a few occasions where I have disagreed with commentary, but many, many, many times been blessed by the accumulated wisdom of the contributors.

It is now the official bible for our church so every one can benefit from it.

My favourite Bible for many years was a palm sized one from the Gideons.
It was given to me free at school. I loved that book! Abi

What Version Of The Bible Do You Prefer?

The Bible was originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, with different parts being written in one of those languages. No word-for-word translation can be fully "literal" and still express all the nuances of the original language.

Each of the major translations of the Bible attempt to accurately convey what the Bible has to say--but may do it in different ways. For example, the NASB tends to do a good job of accurately translating the original meaning of a word to its current English counterpart--but may sacrifice some clarity of thought in the process. The NIV tends to do a better job of translating the thought being conveyed in the original language to a nearly equivalent thought in modern English--but may sacrifice some word-to-word accuracy in the process. The Amplified attempts to give more of the nuances of the original language by placing various English synonymns in parentheses, while a parallel Bible may place each of those other translations (or some other translations) side by side.



There are many good study Bibles available. I typically carry the Life Application Study Bible with me to church, but prefer the Complete Biblical Library for serious study…..
