  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where in scripture does it say that?

Bible quiz time... Get the right answer,.. get to ask the next question..

As the story goes... Yeshua changed Paul's name from Shaul to Paul. In what verse did Paul's name change from Saul to Paul?

Acts 27:24 KJV
24. Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

As the story goes... Yeshua changed Paul's name from Shaul to Paul. In what verse did Paul's name change from Saul to Paul?

In Acts 22:14-16 -- Ananias ‘a devout man according to the law, having a good testimony with all the Jews who dwelt in Damascus’ said to Saul, “The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth. For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”

Later, Saul returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple. He went into a trance in which the Lord said (Acts 22:18), “Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, for they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.” In verse 21 the Lord said, “Depart, for I will send you far from here to the Gentiles.” (NKJV)

Saul is called Paul in Acts 13:9 (wasn't Saul on the island of Cyprus).

Does scripture imply that it was Yeshua that did the name change or gentiles? (My Question)

It was a trick question. Yeshua never changed his name, in fact, he was known by both names before conversation.
Acts 13:9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.
So AbbaLove... your turn.

A quote from your link:

"After landing at Salamis, and proclaiming The Word of God in the synagogues (Acts 13:5), they traveled along the entire southern coast of the island of Cyprus until they reached Paphos (Acts 13:6). There, Sergius Paulus, the Roman proconsul, was converted after Paul rebuked the evil Sorcerer Elymas (Acts 13:6-12). It was at that point that Paul effectively became the leader. He was from then on called Paul, rather than his former name, Saul."

Problem number two arises when the OP states that "As the story goes... Yeshua changed Paul's name" and that evidence is presented nowhere in the text of Acts 13. Remember that Acts is a record having been written well after the events had already transpired. Just because a name somewhat mysteriously changes in the text does not mean that was where and when the person received the surname or name change. Think also concerning "Maria" whose name was changed to Mariam: when and where was it changed? and by whom? This occurred in the garden after the resurrection of Yeshua and it was he alone who changes her name wherein she then speaks her first words, (in that Gospel account) in Hebrew, saying, "Rabboni!" Problem number one is not really worth discussing because the OP has declared her question to be a "trick question" and my correct answer to be incorrect. So much for fun and games. ^_^

these are all Paul's testimony of himself. Yeshua said he that testifies on his own behalf there testimony is not to be taken seriously.

follow Yeshua's teachings

Paul's writings are to be regarded on these fora to be the valid inspired authoratative Word of G_d; he gives testimony to the Living G_d in and through Yeshua.

We believe that the books of B'resheet (Genesis) to the book of Revelation to be the inspired word of Elohim. Any teaching that attempts to invalidate these books of the Bible as being the authoritative inspired word of God will not be acceptable here on the forum.

We believe the Bible, both the TaNaKh and Brit Hadashah (Torah, Prophets, Writings, and New Covenant), to be the inspired authoritative Word of God. Yeshua The Messiah is the memra, the very word of God (see Yochanan/John chapter1)

Paul may have descended from a freed Jewish slave (Acts 6:9). In 63 BC, the Romans under Pompey took a number of Jews back to Rome as slaves. This group of Jews were later freed and exiled from Rome in AD 19. They would have most likely been freed under the law of manumission. Under this law they would have been given Roman citizenship and their descendants would be citizens as well.

It is doubtful that Paul’s father was a Gentile. In Acts 23:6 Paul declares, “Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee” and in Philippians 3:5 he states that he was “Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee”. The phrase “Hebrew of the Hebrews” is a well noted claim of racial, cultural, and religious purity. Those who claimed such were distinguishing themselves from the Samaritans who had intermarried with the Palestinians during the Babylonian exile and had mixed pagan way in with Judaism, and the Hellenistic Jews (the Diaspora) who had lost cultural purity by living among the Gentiles. If his father were a Gentile Paul could not make such a claim.

Jewish converts fluent in Hebrew probably preferred Shaul to Paul even in Rome. Paul had the gift of tongues to speak in different languages-dialects to further the spreading of the Gospel. His name was probably pronounced differently than "Paul" in the native speaking churches across present-day Turkey. Even then converts may have been predominantly Jewish and preferred "Shaul" to "Paul."

Question: Would "Shaul" have been phonetically translated as "Paul" by the native speaking converts on the Island of Cyprus or just by Roman speaking converts? Jewish converts probably preferred "Shaul."

Well the living word of God said he who testifies on their own behalf their testimony is not to be taken seriously. I follow the Living Word Of God

So are you saying that Paul's writings are not Scripture - equal to all other Scripture and the inspired Word of G_d?

In John 5, Jesus declared that His miracles were the Father's witness that His (Jesus') word was true.

In Matthew 10, and Mark 16 He told the Twelve that the Spirit would confirm their words as His through miraculous signs. Mark 16 then confirms that said miracles comfirmed their word everywhere.

Later, when Paul met with these men, they believed his word as true due to its having been confirmed unto them through signs manifested in Paul by the Spirit. It was the only way they would have believed his word - "for the Jews require a sign," 1 Cor. 2, which is why John the Baptist was informed by the Lord, through John's disciples, that His (Jesus') miracles were proof that He was indeed "the Christ" His beloved people had long been promised.

But, I suspect, though, that many MJs are like many non-MJ Christians. Far too many of us arrive at our own conclusions outside of the simple question "Nevertheless, what saith the Scripture?"

Food for thought...

A thought - what happens when we remove Acts through Hebrews from our Bibles?

For me, it goes from what begins to be described, say, at the end of Matthew, Mark and Luke, to what James describes in James 1:1. And to me, this fits Messianic understanding of the commission at the end of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, in light of the whole of Matthew 10 and or Daniel 9.

And yet, it is as if some information is somehow missing between John and James.

Information that has always been missing despite the Church's claim of believing that Acts thru James is also part of Scripture, which is why said Church ends the Apostles in various parts of the world (Thomas in India, for example) they would, given the truth of Matthew 10, have no business in.

Acts through Hebrews - especially Acts and Romans - clears all that up - Replacement Theology is disobedience to the truth of Romans 11:25-27, and 15:8-12 in light of 11:25-27.

If one does not believe Paul when he clearly teaches that he walks according to the Spirit, (which is to say the Spirit of the Testimony of Yeshua and not some "ethereal" spirit speaking from the netherworld) and the same does not himself or herself walk also according to the Spirit of the Testimony of Yeshua; how then can such a one expect to understand Paul?

Since it appears no one offered a next question for the thread here is one:

Matthew 10:6-13 KJV
6. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
9. Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
10. Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
11. And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
12. And when ye come into an house, salute it.
13. And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

Luke 10:3-6 KJV

3. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
5. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
6. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

2 Corinthians 2:12-13 KJV

12. Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,
13. I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.

Where exactly did Paul find or "see" Titus his "brother"?
Please quote the passage and-or verse. :)
