Isn't it possible that there are bad people and there are good people and there are in-between people at all levels of finance, governance, business, and other social structures--and because there are competing interests good things don't often get done, but sometimes they do, and sometimes people have good intentions but bad execution; and sometimes people have bad intentions and also bad execution; and sometimes it's just all so very messy because human beings are really messy. You know, sinners.

There's no great and powerful Wizard of Oz, no Illuminati, no lizard people. It's just people.

And rather than trying to play a silly game of connect the dots to create an all-encompassing theory of why everything is wrong, the Scriptures themselves tell us plainly why everything is wrong.

"For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23

So rather than living terrified that everything going on is actually some secret puppet master pulling the strings in the background. We actually can, you know, engage as stewards, servants, disciples of Jesus and address the practical and real problems of real people right in our midst. And so, for example, social engagement for the good of our neighbor is, in fact, a good thing. We may not always agree on the precise ways of doing that, but we can offer our engagement through various means.

I don't have to believe that the UN's 17 goals toward sustainability is some secret evil plot. But a good-intentioned attempt to improve people's lives. I can be realistic about it--that lofty goals are difficult to achieve. But that doesn't mean I should be opposed to efforts to improve the life of my neighbor.

I should desire that my neighbor has access to clean drinking water.
I should desire that my neighbor has access to plenty of food.
I should desire that my neighbor has access to medical care.
I should desire that my neighbor prospers in a state of peace rather than violent conflict.

To live with the mindset that if someone says, "I want to help someone" we should assume the worst about them is a bleak and awful mental state to occupy.

I am Christ's disciple. A citizen of the kingdom of God. My job, here on this planet, is to follow Jesus by loving my neighbor and sharing the good news of Christ, for God has invaded our world and set the kingdom of darkness to ruin. Christ has conquered hell. There is forgiveness of sin, peace with God, righteousness from God as a free gift, and the promise of resurrection and eternal life--for God has promised to set all things to rights by His Son whom He appointed Heir of all things.

It was not a natural fire. A grass fire does not burn down a town. We have 100s of grass fires every day and they are controllable. House fires are controllable.
