What should I read first?

I have never read Ellen G White's writings, where should I start and where can I find them online?

To be honest I am "afraid" of what to make of her and what she means to SDAs. I think that is why I have not read anything yet.

Any help would be welcomed, I am not asking this out of any malice, I know that we are to keep the Sabbath, I am pretty sure about certain beliefs already and am studying more to see if the SDA church is right.

Thanks :)

3 suggestions 1) Steps to Christ 2) Desire of Ages 3) Thoughts from the Mount of Blessings

The official Ellen White estate web site is a great resource as well:

I was extremely fortunate in how I was exposed to EGW in that it was done quite a matter of factly and without any preconceived language about I "must" believe this or that about EGW.

What I will say is simply read her. Read your Bible and see if the two line up. If they do then you may be on to something.

But understand that even us Adventists sometimes disagree with her and her writings.

May the Lord be with you every step of the way in your search for the truth. Oh, another good web site with absolutely fabulous teaching and videos is www.heavenlysanctuary.com hit the videos section....it great.

I prefer reading from the following site. I just like the layout. Desires of Ages is excellent and then I recommend Great Controversy if your interested in gaining a overall understanding of the Bible and Spiritual Warfare.

Desire of Ages : Christian Resource Centre (Bermuda)

And I recommend the video section at amazingfacts.tv. You will be blessed by his studies and sermons. Tons of videos to watch on that site. I watch sermons from that site almost daily.

I totally understand what your saying I felt the same way when I started out. I was like what is that about, I have three of her books and I love the great controversey it really opened up my mind about whats really going on and how things came to be. I read my bible daily. I read EGW for understanding about past history. I do not follow her. I follow the word of God but as far as I have read I have not come across any contridictions. for someone who only had a third grade education her writings speaks volumes

Some of these posts make EGW sound like a dose of bad medicine. Nobody is required to read EGW. There will not be a quiz before the great white throne on her writings. If you wish to read what she has written then do so. Take what you like and leave what you don't like. Everybody does that with the Bible. So why not do the same with EGW?

This is not the correct approach when reading the Bible.

(emphasis mine)

I think to say that "everyone" uses that bad approach to studying the Bible is painting with much too wide a brush. Sure, many DO do that - but there are also those who study with serious intent to learn what the Bible teaches in its entirety. If one of them comes to believe something and is mistaken, but they are honestly doing their best, I can't agree that they are guilty of approaching scripture with that kind of willy-nilly approach.
