Any inquirer should appreciate that we take in the whole of Christian thought and history and adhere to the essentials while leaving room for the individual to follow his own conscience on non-essentials.

This is different both from the churches that demand conformity to a closely-defined set of beliefs and also from those that are so broad as to feel that there are no essentials.

(Plus, and as has been said many times, Anglicanism is as beautiful and dignified in its worship style as there is to be found anywhere in Christianity. )

The best thing you can do is go to a service, then come and ask questions. There are some fabulously knowledgeable people on here who knows the ins and out of it all, then there are the likes of me who don't know a whole lot of the history etc, but love the Anglican Church just the same.

We have everyone from High church Anglo Catholics to Evangelical Charismatics. The Anglican church is so broad it is unbelievable!

Politics is an 'interesting beast'

Sometimes I think people want to others to be frogmarched to the same theological tune or to be robotic and automatic in their responses to ensure consistancy.

It is probably the inconsistancy, rather the diversity and range of thought, that most find objectionable or most at odds with. What doesn't conform is perhaps deemed fearsome.

However fearsome it remains unique and seemingly held together. Regardless we still focus on what we know to be right, proper and true in whatever tradition and 'space' we feel comfortable.

Some practical advice if you do become Anglican. My wife is Anglican and my children are Anglican. You have to be ready to face the real world implications of Anlicanism.

Specifically, no reflection in the mirror. My wife has come out of the washroom after trying to apply makeup and I swear its like she wants to attend an Alice Cooper concert. I don't have the heart to say anything. So shaving would be a B*tch for you.

Also, you'll no longer be able to enjoy real Italian spaghetti. garlic.

Other than that you should be fine.

I see myself in the mirror just fine, thankyouverymuch!

I also enjoy the smell (and taste!) of garlic, sometimes even eating whole cloves for a rare snack!
