Here's the thing.

We have tons of threads where people have long debates over whether or not gays can be saved.

Me, I wanna know whether Fred Phelps will make it to Heaven. And me, I pray the answer is yes. I honestly can't reconcile God's love with any other answer. The man terrifies me... But I am assured by God that there is something in him worth dying for.

That picture is absolutely disgusting. If he doesn't repent, the twelve apostles will bear witness against "Pastor" Fred Phelps on the last day. And Saint Paul will bear witness against him because he ignored what was written in the Scriptures, "Overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:21). No doubt, Phelps will be cast into hell unless he changes his ways. We should all pray for this man's soul, because not only is he condemning himself, but he is driving others away from Jesus Christ. Truly it would be better if a millstone were tied around his neck, and if he were cast into the sea.

We may all bear witness against him, but if he has faith, then Jesus will testify for him.

I will say, though, that Mr. Phelps has pretty much convinced me of purgatory. I do not believe he would find the transition to love easy or painless. But I may yet hope that he will make it.

I don't think there's much doubt that at the rate he's going, Fred Phelps is headed for hell. Do not be decieved by the fact that he is called a "Pastor." The Pharisees loved to be called "Rabbi." But most of those who persecuted Jesus are now in hell.

To be sure, homosexuality is a sin. But you don't convict a person of sin by telling him that God hates him. You can't save a person by hating him. And you yourself will not be saved if you celebrate a gay man's murder. 1 John 3:15 says that whoever hates his brother is a murderer.

For example, Nazis, atheists, and KKK members are certainly not saved. The problem is that these things I've mentioned aren't just sins, they are sinful lifestyles. A saved individual will never walk in sin, so people who embrace a lifestyle of sin are not saved. Thus, I don't think we should fool ourselves for a moment into thinking that Fred Phelps can be saved. He is a hateful son of hell, and Jesus will not testify on his behalf on the last day. Phelps' only hope is to repent and become a Christian.

Phelps is in error. That is the only discussion. Any other discussion regarding his eternal destination is judging and gossip. Take your pick. Either of those are just as much sin as the 'hate' that Phelps is teaching. Another poster here said it well. Hate the sin, love the sinner. We don't get to say who is saved or who isn't saved, nor do we get to say who should or shouldn't be saved.

I agree with yet another poster here who said that if saved we won't continue in sin. However, that concept must be balanced. Paul wrote to folks who he considered to be saved brothers and sisters in faith, who were in the Corinthian Church, and who were clearly in error on several points. He didn't say they weren't saved. He encouraged them toward truth and obedience. He blessed them.

May God Bless.

That was a really weird website.

Oh my goodness.

I did not read it all, granted, but what I do see him doing wrong is addressing homosexuality in the most derogatory way. I am okay with someone being against it from God's stance, but why be ugly about it? Man, that will really draw someone in to your church- NOT.

And what's up with the "Thank God for 9/11" and "Thank God for Tsunami" photos?

hmmmm

I have seen it speculated that Phelps does not actually believe this material. Supposedly, his family contains several lawyers, and they have made a fair amount of money suing people for assault... Provoking people into hitting you, then suing them, is very American. One poster suggested he could be a "liberal" trying to discredit the religious right. I dunno.

He has certainly demonstrated the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of groups calling for killing gay people.
